Marvel’s new Ultimate Universe is gearing up with one of the coolest Guardians of the Galaxy teams to date. As the Ultimates continue their exploits to liberate Earth-6160 from the Secret Council’s clutches, the fate of the lives beyond the stars has been shrouded in mystery. Now, the galaxy’s greatest defenders are arriving from the far future to recruit one of the most powerful interdimensional heroes of all time.
First reported by AIPT Comics, Marvel has revealed new insights about the additional member to its Guardians roster. In October, Marvel debuted the preview for The Ultimates #8 - by Deniz Camp and Juan Frigeri - showcasing the team’s core members.
Including variants of Star-Lord, Captain Marvel, the Ultimate Nullifier, and Cosmo, these Guardians hail from the 61st century and have survived countless cosmic exploits on a scale currently unseen in the Ultimate Universe . However, their greatest hero from the farthest future of existence begins her story in the 21st century, where the Guardians hope to liberate their comrade from the Maker’s hellish modern reality.

Until The Ultimates #2, the America Chavez was presumably the only version of the character in the Multiverse. Originally born outside of the multiverse, America moved to Earth-616 as a child and thus doesn’t follow the same multiversal rules as everyone else in existence. This was further supported during her multiversal adventures with the Young Avengers, who encountered multiple variants of themselves but not America. However, this new America Chavez has her own story and an even more complicated past / future.

Marvel Has Redefined Its Most Iconic Heroes by Telling Their Stories in Real-Time (Spider-Man Included)
Marvel’s latest universe has moved forward with readers, especially in Spider-Man. It’s such a cool idea, and it's harder than it looks to pull off.
When the Ultimate Guardians of the Galaxy finally make their debut in The Ultimates #8, they have just crash-landed in the modern era in search of one of their greatest allies. It turns out that Chavez was or will become a Guardian, and the team is looking to expedite that process. In an interview by Marvel with writer Deniz Camp, the author had this to note about his Guardians team:
Issue eight introduces the Ultimate Guardians of the Galaxy, and I hope readers enjoy meeting the heroes of the future as much as I enjoyed writing them! It's our most cosmic issue to date, the life and death of universes in 20 pages, and explores new sides of the Ultimate Universe through Ultimate America Chavez, who has quickly become a favorite of mine.
The Guardians of the Galaxy Will Play a New Role in the 21st Century
Which Team Will America Choose to Stay With?
There’s no doubt that while she hails from a further point down the timeline, she will find a new purpose as a hero in the modern age.
After being found, trapped, and used by Midas, America suffered extraordinary trauma. Her memories of her life and home are nothing but foggy glimpses of future worlds. There’s no doubt that while she hails from a further point down the timeline, she will find a new purpose as a hero in the modern age. Her heroism will surely inspire the Guardians to plant new roots as well, giving way to a new collection of cosmic stories including the star-punching Chavez herself.
That said, America still has a future with the Ultimates team for a while. Looking ahead at future issues of the series, the interdimensional hero is slated to return to at least one additional issue after The Ultimates #8. While her far future with the Guardians of the Galaxy may be centuries away, her immediate future with both teams is merely around the corner.
The Ultimates #8 releases on January 1, 2025 from Marvel Comics
