Are there paired endings in Fortune's Weave?

Romance in Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave sounds like a reasonable idea considering the vast roster you can recruit. In the game, the relationship between characters is represented by their support level. As they fight and spend time together in the city, characters' support levels will increase, indicating how intimate they are.

Since in the series' previous games, you had to go through many steps to unlock "romantic endings," you may want to know if there's romance in Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave. Below, we explain everything you need to know about it.

Is there romance in Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave?

Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave does not feature a romance system like Fire Emblem: Three Houses' romance system. However, it doesn't mean that the game's story doesn't portray characters as romantically interested in others or being straight-up flirtatious.

As you play the game and raise a character's support level, you can unlock up to three support conversations — rank C, B, and A scenes. In some of these dialogues, you might see characters demonstrating their affection for each other. For example, Esmeralda won't hide her love for Dietrich from the beginning of the game. Even during the main quest, specific characters will explicitly engage in romantic interactions.

Even so, you won't find a romance system where you can choose and watch your favorite characters in a romantic scene. The closest Fortune's Weave gets to Three Houses' S-Rank romance is the paired ending with Eshmel, the protagonist, but the scenes we played didn't have romance in them.

Below we explain how the paired endings with Eshmel work, with Leda's as an example. We try to explain this somewhat vaguely, but if you are being very careful about spoilers, you may want to avoid scrolling past the big spoiler warning image.

After finishing the final battle in the game, you can choose to teleport Eshmel to someone's location. Then, a list of characters that have support level five with the protagonist will appear. By selecting one of them, you unlock their S-Rank support conversation, which you can rewatch by using the Shrine of Causality at the Obelisk Chamber. This is not necessarily a romantic ending, though.

For example, I chose to return to Leda and in the scene, and Eshmel and the Siren of the Six-String have a sweet conversation about what happened and their plans for the future. Before the credits start to roll, short summaries of what happened to each character you recruited will appear, and Eshmel's explains that, after the events of the game, they have been together with Leda, but not in a romantic fashion.
