‘Every Year After’ Cast Reveals How They Felt About Dramatic Secret Reveal

It’s time to head back to Barry’s Bay.

Less than a month after Every Year After, the Prime Video adaptation series for Carley Fortune’s romance novel Every Summer After hit the platform, showrunner Amy B. Harris confirmed it will return for season two.

“I might have just a little bit more tea for everybody,” Harris said while on stage at Prime Video’s Obsessed Fest June 27. “Do you want the tea? We’re going back to Barry’s Bay for season two!”

Fans of Every Year After, which follows the starcrossed couple Percy Fraser (Sadie Soverall) and Sam Florek (Matt Cornett) as they reunite for the first time following a major fallout as teens, will be relieved considering the major cliffhanger left in the season one finale.

During the series’ final episode, Sam’s brother Charlie (Michael Bradway) has a heart attack in his office while reminiscing on a summer back at Barry’s Bay, where Sam, Percy and he first connected as teens.

Bradway, for his part, had already expressed hope for a season two for the series—which also stars Joseph Chiu, Abigail Cowen and Aurora Perrineau—considering the open-ended fate for his character.

Indeed, Charlie not only experienced a heart attack in the final episode, but also completely fractured his relationship with younger brother Sam amid the revelation that Charlie and Percy slept together as teenagers.

“First off, he needs to make up with his brother,” Bradway told Deadline in an interview at Obsessed Fest. “Two because there’s a certain someone who we all know is out there who Charlie needs to meet.”

Reflecting on the series’ renewal, Bradway emphasized, “I’m excited for him, I’m excited for his journey.”

Fortune fans know exactly what Bradway is referring to. While Every Year After’s first season—and its corresponding book—follows Percy and Sam’s love story, the second novel, and likely corresponding season, turns its focus to Charlie and his love interest Alice Everly.

The new love interest hasn’t been officially cast as of yet, but Fortune previously shared insight into who she’s hoping to get the role.

“Alice is someone who is really at a crossroads in her life,” Fortune told Swoon earlier this month. “She’s very soft. She’s a caregiver. She puts everyone before her. She’s someone who needs to be in the background. She’s very different from the women on Every Year After. I think you need someone who can show that softness but is also very steely inside.”

As Fortune put it, “She is actually very, very strong.”

Meanwhile, other cast members are excited for some resolution in the upcoming season.

I do think that obviously things can be fixed, but I think that there is a lot of talking that needs to happen,” Cornett posited of where the characters currently stand in an interview with E! News earlier this month. “I think that they need to be able to become friends again first, before they can even consider moving forward as a couple. So I'm excited to see that kind of relationship regrow and almost have to start from the ground up."
