Ipswich Town signs Sasa Lukic from Fulham for £9M

Ipswich Town have completed the signing of Saša Lukić from Fulham for a fee of approximately £9M, adding a midfielder with over 100 Premier League appearances to their squad ahead of the 2026-27 season. The Serbian international has passed his medical and signed a four-year contract at Portman Road.

Lukić becomes Ipswich’s eighth signing of what has been a seriously busy summer window, and the second player they’ve plucked directly from Fulham’s roster. Defender Issa Diop already made the same journey earlier in the transfer period.

What Ipswich are getting

Lukić, who turns 30 on August 13, originally moved to English football from Torino in January 2023, when Fulham paid €10M for his services. He went on to rack up more than 100 appearances in all competitions for the Cottagers, scoring three goals from midfield.

From Fulham’s perspective, the arithmetic is straightforward. Lukić had just one year remaining on his contract, with an option for an additional season. Selling now for around £9M, compared to the €10M they originally paid, represents a modest loss on the books but avoids the risk of losing him for free or at a further discount next summer.

Gary O’Neil’s summer project

The signing fits neatly into the broader strategy being executed by Gary O’Neil, who was appointed Ipswich manager in June 2026 on a three-year deal. Earlier in the same week, Ipswich completed a £16M deal for Florentino Luís. Adding Lukić alongside Florentino gives O’Neil depth and competition in central midfield, with the combined midfield spend of roughly £25M reflecting where Ipswich believe their survival battle will be won or lost.

Ipswich’s promotion to the Premier League for the 2026-27 season follows the departure of Kieran McKenna, with O’Neil taking the reins and focusing on enhancing squad depth in midfield.
