Isabella Strahan Shares She's Grateful to be “Walking and Talking” After Cancer Battle
No matter what Michael Strahan and his ex wife Jean Muggli may wrap up under the tree, safe to say their daughter Isabella Strahan has already received her greatest gift this year.
Eight months after the 20-year-old University of Southern California student was diagnosed with medulloblastoma, a fast-growing malignant brain tumor, she endured her last chemotherapy treatment at Duke Children's Hospital & Health Center in North Carolina this past June and was declared officially cancer-free after a successful MRI a month later.
“I feel like I’ve grown in many ways," Isabella told Town & Country this October, one year after a series of headaches, nausea and the inability to walk straight led her to the doctor for a thorough checkup that turned into a months-long battle for her life. "I’m super-grateful for walking and talking again. You don’t think of the things you can do until you live without them."
And these days she's making the most out of every last one of those freedoms, throwing herself completely into college life in Los Angeles.
Whether it's decorating her new digs, covering herself in all things USC cardinal and gold or booking a limo to take her and twin sister Sophia Strahan to Disneyland to mark their 20th birthday in the Happiest Place on Earth, "Now I don’t say no to anything," the model told the outlet. "I don’t think, I’ll do it next week. You don’t know what next week will look like.”

Though her medical team has given her hope to be at least a little forward-thinking.
While she still struggles with a bit of double vision and gaining back the weight she lost while undergoing three craniotomies and four rounds of chemo, “My doctors have told me they don’t think it will recur, which is very reassuring,” Isabella said of her cancer. “I’m happy to be here. I think this year has made me stronger. The people in your life are what makes it enjoyable."
And while she was tight with her Super Bowl-winning pop—also dad to daughter Tanita Strahan, 33, and Michael Strahan Jr., 30, with first wife Wanda Hutchins—before, he now makes it a point to huddle up with his squad whenever possible.
“We’ve always been a close family, but this last year has given me some perspective," the Good Morning America cohost acknowledged to Town & Country. "At the end of the day the most important thing is your kids, your family, your mom, your father, your other loved ones—and just to hold them close to you, and your friends as well."
So while, no doubt, they'll have themselves a merry little Christmas, the former defensive end is eagerly rushing into life's more mundane moments as well.
“Now I wake up every day and enjoy that day," he told the mag, "more so than looking to next week, next month, or next year.”
And as the family readies themselves to turn the page on what was a very painful chapter, we're looking back on everything that led to their happily ever after.
