'Incredibles 3' First Look Officially Revealed by Pixar Ahead of Release

A cinematic obsessive with the filmic palate of a starving raccoon, Rob London will watch pretty much anything once. With a mind like a steel trap, he's an endless fount of movie and TV trivia, borne from a misspent youth of watching monster movies on TV, perusing the sun-faded goods at the local video rental shop, and staining his fingers with ink from the Video Movie Guide. Areas of interest include science fiction, film noir, horror flicks, '70s disaster pictures, Bond movies, '90s action, giant robots, dinosaurs, super heroes, and the exuberantly schlocky output of Cannon Films. He also enjoys both Star Trek and Star Wars when they're good, and maybe even more when they're bad. As a Canadian, he also has a vested interest in Canadian movies and TV shows, especially the cheesier ones dubbed "Canuxploitation."

An expert on Marvel Comics, he has also written for the Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe, and is a member of the Marvel Research Team. He can frequently be found pontificating on comic-book continuity or bemoaning the misfortunes of the Toronto Maple Leafs on his Twitter account.

The First Family of animated superheroics is back. The Incredibles 3 will hit theaters in the summer of 2028, and now we've got our first look at it, thanks to Disney's presentation at their annual D23 Expo. Collider's Joe Schmidt was on the scene.

The Incredibles takes place in a world where superheroes were once commonplace, but a bevy of lawsuits drove them into hiding. Two such retired heroes, Mr. Incredible (Craig T. Nelson) and Elastigirl (Holly Hunter), alias Bob and Helen Parr, married and had a small brood of children. However, the lure of reliving his past glories enticed Bob back into superheroics, inadvertently drawing his entire family into a plot by the evil Syndrome (Jason Lee). The sequel saw superheroes begin to return to public life, thanks to a pair of wealthy siblings (Bob Odenkirk and Catherine Keener), but a new mind-controlling villain lurks in the shadows.

Taking place shortly after the events of the second film, The Incredibles 3 will see superheroes once more operating legally and out in the open, as a well-meaning entrepreneur has brought them back into the light. While the whole gang is back, including Bob's best pal Frozone (Samuel L. Jackson) and imperious fashion designer Edna Mode (Brad Bird), the new film will focus on the Incredible family's kids: super-fast Dash and his invisible sister Violet (Sarah Vowell) are now sneaking out at night to perform superheroics, much as their father did in the original movie. Meanwhile, baby Jack-Jack's powers are becoming increasingly harder to control, but they might need them, as they're up against a villain more powerful than the entire family combined. We've also got a first look at concept art from the film, which depicts Mr. Incredible lifting an enormous object with his prodigious strength. Notably, he's not clad in the red costume he wears in the modern day, but his blue-and-black ensemble from the days before superheroes were banned in the opening scenes of the original film.

Who Are the Creatives Behind 'The Incredibles 3'?

Brad Bird, who wrote and directed the first two Incredibles films, will not return to helm the threequel, due to commitments to his long-gestating passion project Ray Gunn. He will write and executive produce, but directing duties will be handed over to Peter Sohn (Elemental).
