Sydney cocktail bar Bondi Hardware has announced it is closing its doors after 12 years of business.

The venue was purchased in 2010 by Applejack Hospitality founders Ben Carroll and Hamish Watts, who converted the old hardware shop into a rustic-chic restaurant.

They sold the business in 2018 and it continued to trade as normal under the new ownership.

However, the venue has now confirmed it will be shutting its doors, as the hospitality sector struggles at at time when many are cutting back on eating out due to cost-of-living pressures, plus soaring wholesale prices and rents.

'After 12+ incredible years of serving good times—bottomless brunches, cocktails, Sunday roasts, live music, first dates (and even weddings)—it's time to say goodbye,' they announced via Instagram on Tuesday.

'Like many in hospitality, we've faced our share of challenges—navigating the impact of COVID, rising costs of living, and increasing prices of food, alcohol, utilities and rent.'

Bondi Hardware has announced the sad news that it will be closing its doors after 12 years

'After 12+ incredible years of serving good times—bottomless brunches, cocktails, Sunday roasts, live music, first dates (and even weddings)—it's time to say goodbye,' they wrote on Instagram

'Combined with a demolition clause in our lease affecting long-term viability, we've made the difficult and devastating decision to close our doors.'

'Those who know the realities of running a small business (especially hospitality in this climate) will understand the mental toll and heartbreak of this decision, hence why we have been quiet for the past few weeks, processing this huge loss.'

'It's certainly not how we wanted it to end.'

They also thanked the 'incredible community' and 'amazing staff' for their support over the years.

'Signing off with endless gratitude for the amazing ride that we've had,' the post ended.

Many locals and influencers flocked to the comments section to express their shock and sadness over the restaurant's closure.

Laura Csortan wrote: 'So sorry to see it go, 1000's of amazing memories. Thank you for creating a wonderful space for us all to come to over the years. The venue and everyone associated will all be missed terribly.'
