Over the years, Godzilla lore has introduced iconic kaiju including Anguirus, Biollante and Destoroyah, while incorporating many more who started out as stars in their own right, including Rodan, Mothra and King Ghidorah. Godzilla has conquered them all, but has only befriended a select few.
Now, his closest ally - sometimes known as 'the Queen of the Monsters' - is officially confirmed for Godzilla's next appearance. However, Godzilla will need the help, facing some of his most fearsome foes of all time.
Mothra Will Appear as Godzilla Takes on the Multiverse
Marvel has officially confirmed that Mothra will star in the upcoming Godzilla Conquers the Multiverse #4. The gigantic. telepathic moth monster will be part of a kaiju battle royal, involving towering monsters from both Godzilla and Marvel canon.
Godzilla Conquers the Multiverse is the latest entry in Marvel's Godzilla epic, and sees Doctor Doom traveling the multiverse, collecting kaiju to oppose Godzilla, who - controlled by the King in Black - has conquered the reality of Earth-616. Writer Gerry Duggan had teased Mothra might appear, but the recently released solicit for issue four makes it official.

This 'trilogy' started with Godzilla Destroys the Marvel Universe and progressed with Godzilla: Infinity Roar, seeing the King of Monsters defeat major heroes and villains, eventually conquering Asgard at Knull's command. Doom believes that a kaiju army is the answer, assembling his own 'Avengers' roster to gather them together.

So far, the Avengers of Doom have encountered Rodan, a Godzilla with gigantic Wolverine claws, and a Mechagodzilla-style verison of Fin Fang Foom piloted by the Punisher. However, issue four also promises the mysterious and intriguing 'MARVEL KAIJU.' Could this be a combination of iconic heroes merged into a monstrous form?
How Fans Are Celebrating Mothra's 65th Anniversary
Mothra's appearance was teased by Duggan as a celebration of the character's 65th anniversary, and is just one way that Toho is celebrating the occasion. The company has announced a new range of apparel starring the moth-ster available from Godzilla Store US, there'll be a dedicated Godzilla Museum exhibit in September, and Netflix has added the classic Rebirth of Mothra trilogy and Godzilla, Mothra and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack.
All of this is part of 'Mothra Year,' as Toho has declared 2026, and will be accompanied by various new merch and comic appearances, including in Sonic the Hedgehog x Godzilla and the recently collected Godzilla Legends - Mothra: Queen of the Monsters.
However, the jewel in the crown is the first ever English translation of Shin’ichirō Nakamura, Takehiko Fukunaga, and Yoshie Hotta's The Luminous Fairies and Mothra - the 1961 novel that introduced the character, available now.
2026 is officially Mothra Year, and Marvel is honoring the occasion by bringing the iconic kaiju into the events of Godzilla Conquers the Multiverse later this year.
