Google's Pixel 10 Pro and 10 Pro XL are the company's latest flagship phones, packing a suite of new features. From the new Tensor G5 processor, faster charging and various new AI tools, the Pixel 10 Pro range has been refined in almost every way.
Yet the design looks familiar, sporting an almost identical aesthetic to last year's model. Do I mind? Not at all -- I loved the Pixel 9 Pro, and I don't think its design needed overhauling just one generation later.
The Pixel 10 Pro and 10 Pro XL go on sale on Aug. 28 from $999 and $1,199, respectively.

The Pixel 10 Pro XL, as the larger phone, packs a 6.8-inch display, which is ideal for looking at yourself while you hold up your favorite Leica camera -- for some reason.

The base Pixel 10 Pro has a 6.3-inch screen, which is the one to go for if you're not keen on wrapping your hands around enormous phones.

I used the 10 Pro XL outside in the middle of the Paris summer sun and still found it perfectly readable. Nice work.

The glass back remains, as does the shiny edge and the pill-shaped camera bar. It's a classy look.

Like many phones, the Pixel 10 looks good photographed next to cutlery in a Parisian bar.

Both Pro models pack the same cameras.

You'll get a 50-megapixel main camera, a 48-megapixel ultrawide and a 48-megapixel telephoto zoom.

The camera hasn't changed much, but there are various AI tools on board to help you take better photos or to upscale zoomed-in shots.

Slippery metal edges. Make sure you use a case if you're of the clumsy persuasion.

Both phones pack the same Tensor G5 processor and 16GB of RAM so the only real difference comes down to the screen size.

There's a new soft mint color for the Pro phones and I really like it. It reminds me of the sort of paint that you'd find on a dentist's waiting room in the '90s, and for some reason, I'm really into that as an aesthetic.

The Pixel 10 range will launch with Android 16 on board.

Android 16 brings various new updates including the new Material 3 Expressive interface with its rounded widgets and new fonts, along with various new AI tools.

Magic Cue is one of the big new AI features. It aims to automatically surface relevant information when you need it. Say you're texting a friend and they ask for details about the camping trip you have coming up. Magic Cue will see this request and can pull up relevant information from Gmail, such as confirmation messages for the campsite and details you two have discussed. It can share that without making you switch apps to find it yourself.

There's also a gray version, but this reminds me less of dentists and more of parking lots behind a dentist's, which is less of a vibe.

Actually the gray looks pretty rad against this nice yellow chair material.

The AI extends to the camera experience, too. Zoom in past 30x and it'll use generative AI to re-create lost details in the scene. Meanwhile, the Camera Coach tool will analyse the scene in front of you and give step-by-step instructions in how to take a better photo, which as a pro photographer of over a decade, is exactly the sort of tool I've been waiting for to take my images to the next level.

The 10 Pro supports 30-watt wired charging while the 10 Pro XL takes that further to 45 watts, which Google says will take the phone from empty to 70% full in just 30 minutes.

Both phones also support the new Qi2 wireless charging standard for faster wireless charging.

I've already put the cameras to the test in Paris, and I'm really impressed at the shots the phone can take.

A shadowy shot because I'm nothing if not overly artsy when it comes to taking product photos.

How will the Pixel 10 Pro's camera stack up against the upcoming iPhone 17 Pro? I honestly can't wait to find out.
