I Spat on A Stick at CES to Measure My Stress Hormones (Eli Hormometer Test) video

1 week ago 11

The Eli Hormometer offers an at-home option to testing hormone changes for cortisol and progesterone with a saliva test using an app. CNET's Bridget Carey takes it for a spin at CES 2025.

This is the thermometer by Eli. I just put it in my mouth and I'm going to get test results to see how stressed I am. Would you like to learn about it? Let's learn about it together. I wouldn't normally recommend that someone do this, but I'm going to put something in my mouth at a tech show. So you can do this at home, test your cortisol levels anytime, anywhere, like at a giant tech show in the middle of Las Vegas. To get started, I'm going to press this plus button and I'm gonna collect the saliva in my mouth. lovely. All right, now. Now we're gonna hold it in the mouth for 60 seconds to really collect the saliva like the thermometer in 60 seconds. One minute later. I'm done for the next step, you pull the tab. So I pulled this tab until you see the blue dog, so a little more. I had a little snap, OK. Perfect. All right. And then now we wait 20 minutes for the test. All right, so cortisol, it's a stress indicator. Yes, it is, it indicates stress, but more than that, it's a hormone that impacts almost every system of your body. It makes you wake up. It's what makes you sleep. It impacts everything. It impacts your your metabolic. You want to get a baseline. You want to get basically a data set going to see like, right, in the morning I have this resolved, but at night it's still high. Maybe I need to make a life change. Do I need a life change? I won't know until I do maybe more of these, but it'll be fun to see how stressed I am. At the start of a tech show, so I could also have a test done for progesterone, which is a female hormone that could possibly tell me if I was about to enter perimenopause. Oh darn, I just won't know today if I'm going to go into menopause. Shucks, so I. Couldn't take that test. So if you want to get started, you got to buy a pack of these. Each one of these is $8 and so it's a subscription because you want to get a lot of data to know about your health in the long term. The fact that you can do a test like this at home is pretty neat, so I I kind of dig it. It's been 20 minutes. The test is done. Let's see what I win. It's calculating hormone measurement in seconds. Oh, in seconds it'll be ready in seconds. It's coming. It's coming. Perfect. Your hormone results are ready. My hormone results are ready. Waiting. Oh, very low actually 0.5. Look, ma, I'm not stressed. See, I'm not stressed. This is just who I am. Oh, I got a good score. 82. OK. Oh, that's so wonderful. Oh, can I, can I get that as a souvenir? Shot me. I'm gonna screenshot this. Hold on. I wanna, I wanna hang this on the, on the fridge. Well done. Try waking up at the same time every morning to further optimize your score. Now, of course I need to take more to really get a better sense of like how I'm flowing, but right now I'm doing pretty good. I learned so much about my hormones today and so did you. So thanks for going on this journey with me. And you know what, if you want to see more weird journeys from CES, subscribe. We'll have videos all week. Thanks for watching.
