Nespresso Vertuo Pop+

If you're looking for a cheap and cheerful Nespresso machine, the Vertuo Pop+ is the one for you. It's super simple to use, easy to clean, and small enough to fit into even the tiniest kitchen. Despite that, it doesn't compromise on performance, heating and dispensing your coffee just as quickly as machines costing several times as much.

The Vertuo Pop+ offers several improvements on the original Pop, including a larger water tank that's now mounted on the side, so you don't have to pull the whole machine away from the wall when it needs refilling.

There's also a sliding height-adjustable drip tray, so you can use espresso cups or mugs without risk of splashing, and you can hit the 'brew' button twice for a more concentrated coffee that's just right for pouring over ice. The coffee won't actually be extracted using cold water (if that's what you want, take a look at my top-rated cold-brew coffee maker), but it'll be stronger so it won't taste watered-down when poured over ice.

This machine takes dome-shaped Nespresso Vertuo pods. Just unlock the lid, slide the capsule inside, close the machine and you're ready to brew. The only thing it can't do (unlike the other two machines in this list) is froth milk for cappuccinos and lattes. If that's something you want, take a look at the Nespresso Aeroccino stand-alone milk frother.

Best for lattes

Nespresso Lattissima One

The Lattissima One is a good-looking Nespresso machine with a built-in milk frothing system, meaning it's a great single-serve machine for preparing lattes and cappuccinos in the morning – and it's great value for Black Friday with $169 off the list price.

It's an excellent option if you find yourself a little intimidated by the idea of using a manual steam wand, and during testing we were thoroughly impressed by just how easy it was to use. Just insert the pod, choose the volume of steamed milk you'd like to add (or opt for a plain espresso) and away you go.

As our reviewer found, the Lattissima One is designed to use up all the milk in its tank in one go, so you're not left with a partially-filled container that needs to be refrigerated. The tank is dishwasher-safe, so keeping it clean and hygienic is a piece of cake.

Unlike the other two machines in this Black Friday deals roundup, the Lattissima One takes Nespresso Original capsules, which means you can take your pick from a huge range of coffee brands, from big chains like Starbucks to tiny independent roasters.

Nespresso Vertuo Creatista

The Vertuo Creatista is the most stylish Nespresso machine we've ever tested here at TechRadar, with a gleaning stainless steel finish and no plastic in sight.

Like the Lattissima One above, the Creatista has a milk-frothing system for lattes and cappuccinos., but instead of being poured directly into your cup, the steamed milk is prepared in a pitcher so you can finish making your drink by hand. Yes. this is a Nespresso machine that lets you try your hand at latte art (pro tip: start with a simple heart and work your way up from there).

It worked well during our tests, producing silky foam that was easy to pour, and was effective with dairy milk and plant-based alternatives.

This version of the Creatista takes Nespresso Vertuo capsules, which are only available direct from Nespresso's online store and its boutiques. If you'd like to use Nespresso Original pods instead, take a look at the Nespresso Creatista Plus, which is now $389 (was $599.95) at Amazon – another record-low price for Black Friday.
