I Gave L'Oréal My Cells to Know What Products Are Good for My Skin (And So Can You!) video

L'Oreal's Cell BioPrint uses a simple sticker to gather skin cells and look for biomarkers to identify aging issues your skin may be prone to have, and what products may be a better fit for your needs. It's been in development for ten years, and would be a test given in retail stores. CNET's Bridget Carey tries it on her skin at CES 2025.

One of the biggest frustrations of buying beauty products is not knowing which product to buy. You don't know what's gonna work best with your skin or what issue you might have to deal with. Well, L'Oreal says this machine here can figure that out. This is the cell bioprint. I use a little. for it to collect some of the cells off my cheek and then it's going through a test to be able to see some of the biological markers, uh, issues that I might have as I'm aging and what other issues I might have to look forward to in the future. So let's give it a whirl. So first thing you do is take the tape strip, but you can peel it off and then you just put it on one side of your cheek and you just keep going back and forth 15 times. It would stick less and less, and what's happening now is that um he's going to then put that into a cartridge that later will have a buffer in it and it will get rid of everything but the proteins, and then you will do the same exact process on your other cheek, OK? Now, he will take that, he'll just place the two tape strips inside the buffer. And that will um take everything from the skin cells except the proteins. So it takes about one minute to do that. And once you have the liquid that just has the proteins, he will put it onto a little smart card here. We have it coded for the proteins that we know are related to all of these future signs of skin. So the proteins have the secrets. Exactly. It's like the secrets decoded, and then you enter it into this machine and it will give you the information. All right, I got my test results here. My biological age was one year older than my chronological age. Future concern for wrinkles. Yes, thanks. I'm not surprised on that one, but at least you know it kind of gives me some clues here of what maybe is not a problem, like unevenness. So that's cool. I find this pretty interesting because I do buy a lot of products and I don't know what is working and not working, and this kind of gives me a clue of maybe what I should be watching out for. So I do use retinol products. It says I should keep doing that because I. Have a high responsiveness to it. It really was just a sticker. There was nothing else to it and it's pretty impressive stuff. So this is something that you'll start to see in retail stores later this year. They say that they have done a lot of different studies to be able to get this as accurate as possible. These are the current test results, but they could also even do more in the future as they continue to study. Let us know in the comments what you think and if you give it a spin.
