The reboot of Buffy the Vampire Slayer is officially dead at Hulu. It was confirmed in February 2025 that Hulu had ordered a pilot for a Buffy the Vampire Slayer series designed as both a reboot and a continuation of the genre-defining 1990s series. Sarah Michelle Gellar signed on to return as Buffy Summers in a recurring role, while the story centers on a new slayer. Chloé Zhao directed the pilot, with Lilla Zuckerman and Nora Zuckerman writing the script.

Although specific plot details about the reboot have not been revealed, it was known that the focus would have shifted to a new young slayer, reportedly named Nova, who is played by Star Wars: Skeleton Crew and The Lowdown star Ryan Kiera Armstrong. The reboot cast also would have included Faly Rakotohavana, Ava Jean, Sarah Bock, Daniel Di Tomasso, and Jack Cutmore-Scott in series regular roles.
