Hugh Jackman's wedding plans with Sutton Foster hit a major snag: 'He wants to be respectful'

Hugh Jackman's wedding plans with his girlfriend Sutton Foster have reportedly hit a snag, as he works at getting the two children he shares with ex-wife Deborra-Lee Furness on board.

The Hollywood star has reportedly proposed to Foster, 50, his former Broadway co-star, but sources say the road to the altar is far from simple, according to the National Enquirer.

Jackman, 57, and Furness, 70, finalised their divorce in June, in what many considered one of Hollywood's most surprising splits. 

The couple, long seen as one of Hollywood's strongest pairings, share two adopted children, Oscar, 25, and Ava, 20.

Rumours have circulated that Jackman grew close to Foster before his marriage ended, though nothing has been confirmed.

Months after the divorce was finalised, Jackman and Foster made their red-carpet debut as a couple, signalling that their professional partnership had blossomed into a romantic relationship.

Entertainment outlets have reported the pair were moving quickly towards engagement, with New Idea claiming Jackman has 'finally popped the question'.

But not everyone in Jackman's circle is on board, as the National Enquirer quotes an unnamed source saying his children remain 'steadfastly loyal' to Furness and are, at least for now, struggling to celebrate their father's next chapter.

'Even though Hugh is excited to start this next chapter with Sutton, he has to be sensitive to his kids. They're incredibly protective of their mother... he wants to be respectful of that,' the source said.

This tension seems central to any delay in wedding plans – Jackman reportedly wants his children to not feel pressured into publicly endorsing a union they may not yet be ready to embrace. 

The insider insists their presence is key to the actor, who wouldn't want to celebrate without them present.

'Hugh really wants his kids at the wedding. They both want their loved ones with them to celebrate,' they said.

So far, neither Jackman, Foster, Furness, nor their representatives have commented publicly on the reported engagement.

Last month, a new report claimed a wedding between Hugh Jackman and Sutton Foster was imminent. 

The Australian actor has reportedly refused to draw up a prenup with the Broadway star, the Globe claimed this week. 

Jackman 'won't even entertain' the idea, an alleged insider told the Globe, and sees the suggestion as 'offensive'. 

The Wolverine star has a reported $170 million fortune, but seemingly has no fears about sharing it with his future second wife.  

It follows reports that the pair are preparing to tie the knot in an 'intimate' wedding later this year. 

Hugh is said to be house-hunting for a new marital home in an upscale suburb just outside New York.

According to a source close to the couple, the wedding will take place as soon as Sutton's divorce from ex Ted Griffin is finalised. 

Hugh and Sutton's romance emerged following his split from his wife of 27 years, Deborra-Lee Furness.

The couple made their red-carpet debut at the 2025 AFI Fest in Hollywood in October.
