Huge Cobra Kai Reveal Sets Up A Massive Tournament Twist

2 days ago 2

If a detail from the Cobra Kai season 6 part 2 trailer is any indication, the matchup for the Sekai Taikai's ending may be completely unexpected. In most of the tournaments featured in The Karate Kid franchise, the identities of the fighters in the finals aren't really hard to guess. One exception to this was the boys' division in season 4's All-Valley Karate Tournament, which came down to Robby and Hawk (not Miguel). The series arrived at this showdown through a surprising twist to Miguel's story, and now there's a good chance a similar turn of events will occur in season 6's second batch of episodes.

Apparently, 16 different teams will be fighting it out at the Sekai Taikai, with their fighters engaging in team events and individual competitions. Though just being there is proof of every participating dojo's prowess, it makes sense to assume from the franchise's history that Miyagi-Do and Cobra Kai will be the last teams standing. That may be true for individual competitions, but it may not be the case for the team matchups Cobra Kai has on the horizon. From the looks of things, at least one of those other 14 dojos will see the tournament through to the end.

Cobra Kai Hints Another Dojo Could Win The Sekai Taikai

It Looks Like Cobra Kai Or Miyagi-Do Will Be Eliminated Before The End Of The Team Events

At several points in the trailer, "Elimination Round 2" can be seen on the screen behind the teenage characters. Each time, members of the Cobra Kai and Miyagi-Do teams can be seen fighting. The implication here is that Cobra Kai and Miyagi-Do won't both be in the finals of this key branch of the event. Instead, it seems they'll be facing off in one of the tournament's first rounds. That would be contrary to the franchise's usual Miyagi-Do vs. Cobra Kai formula, but also allow for the tournament to offer some genuine surprises.

It also raises the possibility of this third party taking their place (or Cobra Kai's) in the finals and winning the Sekai Taikai altogether.

Granted, this development will likely have no impact on the individual competitions, which are still expected to end with Robby vs. Kwon and Sam vs. Tory. What it does set up, however, is Miyagi-Do's Sekai Taikai team or Cobra Kai standing on the sidelines when the team events come to a close. That could matter immensely, especially if Miyagi-Do losing the team events means both Robby and Sam have to win their competitions in order for the dojo to take home the championship. It also raises the possibility of this third party taking their place (or Cobra Kai's) in the finals and winning the Sekai Taikai altogether.

Lewis Tan as Sensei Wolf in Cobra Kai

If it's true that Cobra Kai or Miyagi-Do has to face a different team in the finals of the team competition, the Iron Dragons dojo looks to be the strongest contender for that role. The marketing for Cobra Kai season 6 part 2 has really emphasized the importance of Lewis Tan's Sensei Wolf character, whose dojo logo identifies him as the head of the Iron Dragons. One of his fighters knocking down Tory was an indication that for the first time in the series, the villains can't just focus on beating Miyagi-Do. They too have other concerns; worrying too much about their rivals could pave the way for someone else to claim the championship.
