How to Watch the 2026 Primetime Emmys

For television stars, creators, and enthusiasts, it all comes down to this. After a lengthy award season that included endless campaigning over two phases of voting, the 78th Primetime Emmys have finally arrived. Tonight, the industry’s biggest names will descend upon the Peacock Theater in downtown Los Angeles to celebrate the year in television and give out the medium’s most coveted awards. (Some awards, including the Guest Actor categories, were already announced at last weekend’s two-night Creative Arts Emmys ceremony hosted by Wanda Sykes.)

The ceremony kicks off at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT on Monday, September 14. NBC will broadcast the show, which will also stream live on Peacock with a premium plan. NBC will also produce an official red carpet pre-show hosted by Trisha Paytas and Nicky Campbell — but, in a sign of the times, it will not air on broadcast TV and will be exclusively available on the NBC TikTok account. That show will begin at 6:45 p.m. ET.

This year, the Emmys will be hosted by “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” star Mariska Hargitay, a three-time Primetime Emmy winner in her own right. It marks a slight break from tradition, as most recent hosts have come from a stand-up or sketch comedy background. Last year’s ceremony was emceed by Nate Bargatze, with other recent hosts including Eugene and Dan Levy, Anthony Anderson, and Keenan Thompson.

Major storylines at this year’s Emmys ceremony include “Hacks” star Jean Smart’s quest to become the first person to win the Lead Actress in a Comedy Series Emmy in every single season of a show’s run, Harrison Ford’s third shot at an Emmy for “Shrinking,” and the opportunity for “The Pitt” to repeat its rookie season win for Outstanding Drama Series. Plenty of eyes will also be on freshman comedy series like “Widow’s Bay” and “DTF: St. Louis,” which could be contenders in plenty of acting categories as well.
