Spanish TV is well known for its gripping dramas, intense telenovelas and fun quiz shows, and Antena 3's streaming service atresplayer is the place to go to ensure you don't miss out while away on vacation.

There are hundreds of top TV shows to enjoy, including Sueños de libertad set in 1958 as Begoña Montes seeks to leave a toxic marriage, the Spanish adaptation of Mar afuera. They also do a decent line Turkish dramas moving over to the Spanish screen, including Emanet, Renacer and Una nueva vida.

Then there's classic Spanish quiz show Pasapalabra (based on the Alphabet Game), La Voz (the Spanish version of The Voice) and Drag Race España (RuPaul's Drag Race in Spain). Plus, La Sexta's iconic football magazine show El Chiringuito de Jugones – featuring more arguments than your average telenovela – has been lighting up social media in recent years.

It's also the Spanish home of The Simpsons.

Though watching Antena 3 or La Sexta, via atresplayer, is as easy as heading out for some tapas in Spain, it'll stop working when you leave home. Here's a full (and quick) guide to how to get atresplayer from anywhere in the world...

How to watch Antena 3 in Spain

To begin watching Antena 3 via atresplayer, it's a good idea to create an account. You don't need one to watch recently broadcast shows, but you do to watch live TV online.

Thankfully, this only takes a matter of seconds, and you sign up either using your pre-existing Google or Facebook credentials or by signing up directly with atresplayer. Thankfully, because Antena 3 is a free service, for the gratis tier at least, you don't need to input any payment details. Happy days.

Register: Visit the atresplayer, click on the person icon in the top right of the screen and then 'Crea tu cuenta gratis' (create a free account). Then fill in the details required, usually just an email address and a password.

Of course, just input your pre-existing Google or Facebook details at the prompt if that's how you want to sign in.

And that's it, you're good to start watching Antena 3 for free! That means you can start live streaming TV channels Antena 3, La Sexta, Neox, Nova, Mega, Atreseries, Flooxer, Vix and Kidz.

What if you want access to the full 30,000-hour back catalog of shows, such as the OG version of Your Face Seems Familiar, called Tu cara me suena in Spain), though? For that, you need a subscription to atresplayer. Plans with adverts start from €4.99 a month, or €49.99 for the year; or you can spend more to get rid of ads, add Vix content or Disney content to your plan.

But you can only do this with a Spanish IP address. Abroad right now? Here's how to unblock Antena 3...

How to watch Antena 3 from anywhere

Antena 3's streaming service atresplayer is only available to watch in Spain, which means it won't work if you try to stream when overseas on business or vacation. However, you can always download a VPN to overcome these regional restrictions and access atresplayer as normal when you're outside the Spain. You may be surprised how simple it is to do.

What content does Antena 3 and atresplayer have?

If it's telenovelas (soap operas) you're after, then there are plenty to enjoy on Antena 3. Pasión de Gavilanes is a classic straight from Colombia that keeps half of Spain hooked. El Secreto de Puente Viejo was another series that went down well in Spain.

Then there's classic Spanish quiz show Pasapalabra (based on the Alphabet Game), La Voz (the Spanish version of The Voice) and Drag Race España (RuPaul's Drag Race in Spain).

Antena 3 and La Sexta, via atresplayer, are also good places to get the latest news and current affairs programs.

There's also a decent selection of films to enjoy, too.

What sport will be shown live on Atresplayer?

All in all, not much compared with other Spanish outlets, but sport is not really what Antena 3 and La Sexta deals in.

The exception, though, is the aforementioned El Chiringuito de Jugones. Social media has been ablaze recently with clips from the football magazine show, which makes up for limited action from the beautiful game with intense debate, argument and often physical threats from the studio and various reporters around La Liga.

Josep Pedrerol tries to keep order.
