Why SAG Awards Changed Its Name to Actor Awards Moving Forward
Let the actor-on-actor love fest commence.
The Actor Awards 2026—the only award season ceremony where the actors actually decide who wins—are right around the corner, taking place on Sunday, Mar. 1, and airing live on Netflix from the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles.
The annual show, historically called the Screen Actors Guild Awards until its recent name change by the SAG-AFTRA Foundation, honors the most poignant and thought-provoking performances of the year across films and television.
So, it should be no surprise that acting powerhouses like Timothée Chalamet, Leonardo DiCaprio, Emma Stone, Michael B. Jordan and Teyana Taylor are among the impressive list of names being recognized for their work on the silver screen.
And the TV talent is equally as impressive. Nominated for top awards across the Drama and Comedy television categories are stars like Noah Wyle, Sterling K. Brown, Jenna Ortega, Martin Short, Claire Danes and Ted Danson, just to name a few.
While it's too soon to know for sure who is going home with an Actor trophy in their hands, celebrity nominees shouldn't stress as they prepare for the A-list event. That's because third-time host Kristen Bell wants to only focus on the positive when it comes to celebrating all who will be in attendance.
“I don’t roast. It’s not in me,” the Nobody Wants This star told Deadline in an interview published Feb. 23 of her game plan. “If I’m going to roast anyone, it’s going to be me. That’s what’s funniest to me. So it will be light and goofy and hopefully still make you laugh. But I want everyone to feel welcome.”
And, even if Bell does call out some of the famous audience members, it will all be in good fun.
"I have an aversion to mean jokes," she told the outlet, "so I call them goofs because it’s a slightly more playful name. So I’ll be goofing on people. You’d better bet your butt I’ll be goofing on people, but no one’s going to walk away with hurt feelings.”
