There is currently only one definite way to find and catch a Wiglett in Pokémon GO, which also slims down your options to evolve it into Wugtrio and hopefully get a Shiny one as well. After making its debut in the game back in April 2024 during the Rediscover Kanto event, the Garden Eel Pokémon has been an elusive find for Trainers trying to catch one. If you've been after the Paldean Water-type, thinking it's an alternative version of Diglett, this is not exactly the case, but it will still make a solid entry in your account's Pokédex.
While the beady-eyed, red-nosed eel does indeed look like the Gen 1 Mole Pokémon, Wiglett is not a Paledean version of Diglett but instead its own Pokémon. The same applies to its evolution, with Wugtrio not being a Paldean version of Dugtrio. With a selection of effective Water-type and Ground-type attacks in the movesets of both Pocket Monsters, Wugtrio could be an effective go-to against tough Fire-type bosses, just like those featured in the latest Pokémon GO Raid boss schedule for Trainers to take on.
Where To Find Wiglett In Pokémon GO
Go For A Beach Day
You must go to a beach biome if you want to find and catch a Wiglett in Pokémon GO. In the game, biomes are ecosystem-based areas created in line with a section of a map's real-life surroundings. These include the aforementioned beach biome, then those for a forest, mountains, and a city. With the addition of the game's biome system, GO determines how certain Pokémon can spawn for players. In the case of beach biomes for Wiglett, Pokémon GO players need to approach an in-game area containing a body of water such as a river, ocean, or lake.

However, keep in mind that Wiglett is a fairly rare spawn, so save your Daily Adventure Incense for when you go to a beach biome, or you can spend PokéCoins within the game, so you can increase spawns to 60 minutes instead of 15. You will know you’re in the right type of biome when you start seeing spawns of other Water-type Pokémon, such as Magikarp, Marill, and Goldeen. Be sure to use the radar on the bottom-right of your screen which indicates what Pokémon are nearby, showing Wiglett's silhouette in front of its nearest PokéStop if one is nearby.
If a PokeStop is in any beach biome you find, use a Lure Module to increase your chances of a Wiglett spawn as well.
How To Evolve Wiglett Into Wugtrio
Pinap Berries & Buddy Walking
To evolve Wiglett into Wugtrio, Pokémon GO players need to spend 50 Wiglett Candies and select the "Evolve" option on its summary page. Because it's such a rare spawn, the best way to build up Wiglett Candy as fast as possible is to use a Pinap Berry on any you find and catch. Pinap Berries double the Candy for a Pokémon you get with each catch, so save any you get from spinning PokeStops or opening Gifts from friends.
While you're waiting for the next rare spawn of Wiglett to pop up, you can also farm Candy by having one walk with you as your set in-game Buddy. As your Buddy, Wiglett will earn you one Candy for every three kilometers. This means that once you have caught at least one Wiglett with a Pinap Berry, you can grind enough Candy to evolve it after walking 132KM while casually playing the game over the coming days and weeks.
Can Wiglett Be Shiny?
Currently Not In The Game
Wiglett currently cannot be Shiny in Pokémon GO, as well as Wugtrio. While Wiglett is available to catch in the game, not every new addition gets its Shiny variant right away, sometimes being saved with special events centered around a specific Pokémon, like a Community Day or season event that could have Wiglett featured among a bunch of other Pocket Monsters. Even if a Shiny Wiglett was available, it being a rare spawn would make it a tough find, although a Community Day would increase its Shiny odds in Pokémon GO.
If the variant does get released in an event that does not increase its odds, be sure to use an Incense, Daily Adventure Incense, or Lure Modules that increase its spawn rate when you're in the right area. This would give you the best chance of finding one. As long as you remember to look in beach biome areas in Pokémon GO with watery areas like rivers, lakes, or oceans, you will soon be able to add Wiglett and Wugtrio to your Pokédex.
