How to get the Hierarchy of Needs catalyst in Destiny 2

3 days ago 9

The Hierarchy of Needs Exotic bow was one of the more unique weapons when it released, and its catalyst was the icing on the cake. With it, you can fire as fast as Lord of the Ring‘s Legolas and with the same Elvish precision—no accuracy required.

Hierarchy of Needs’ intrinsic effect lets you charge up a Guidance Ring. Shooting an arrow through that ring makes it home on your targets, splitting into multiple projectiles along the way. The aim assist is extremely generous, and if that wasn’t enough, the bow got a spicy buff in The Edge of Fate, extending that benefit to all arrows that pass through the ring.

This gives Hierarchy of Needs a quasi-Gjallarhorn quality, supporting bow users on a squad. This Exotic gets a little extra love whenever bows are in fashion, such as during Arms Week events or favorable artifacts. Here’s where you can get its catalyst to crank this bow up a notch.

What does the Hierarchy of Needs catalyst do in Destiny 2?

The Hierarchy of Needs catalyst lets you ramp up the onslaught. With it, deploying a Guidance Ring (or hitting a target through one) improves your draw time and reload speed, so you can continue firing more quickly.

In practice, you’re building faster Guidance Ring stacks, dealing more damage, and creating even more seeker arrows. The Edge of Fate buff made this Exotic only require three hits for a Guidance Ring, down from six, so the catalyst is slightly less necessary.

Still, this Exotic helps out all Legendary bows in your team, so it’s particularly useful in certain scenarios. Based on Bungie’s wording, this can include heavy crossbows such as A Good Shout or Opaque Hourglass, so Hunters with Tether can be particularly happy with it.

How to get the Hierarchy of Needs catalyst in Destiny 2

The Hierarchy of Needs catalyst drops when you complete the Master Version of Spire of the Watcher. Clearing the entire dungeon may not be necessary, so you can likely get away with just a boss checkpoint.

Since the sandbox has changed considerably since the dungeon’s release, taking the challenge now is considerably easier than it was a few years ago. You likely need the weapon to drop first before you can get the catalyst, and unlike more recent dungeons, there’s no associated quest (Sundered Doctrine) or attunement (Equilibrium).

If you don’t have Hierarchy of Needs, Spire of the Watcher (and other pre-Renegades dungeons) are farmable, including their Exotics. Cross your fingers when you run them, because there’s always a chance to grab the associated Exotic when taking down the last boss.
