And why you'd want to
Image: Intelligent Systems/Nintendo via PolygonFire Emblem: Fortune's Weave's DLC weapons give your army a sizeable advantage, though they do come with a few drawbacks. Obtaining the weapons involves completing a new subquest, and each of the four playable Flame Lords gets a special weapon. There's a bit of timeline funkiness involved in getting those weapons to Part 2 or beyond if you've already completed someone's Part 1. It's worth the hassle, though.
These weapons are only available as part of the Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave expansion pass, and they've been added to the game as Wave 1 of the DLC.
Below, we explain how to get Fire Emblem Fortune's Weave's DLC weapons and what to expect from them.
How to get the DLC weapons in Fire Emblem Fortune's Weave
Image: Intelligent Systems/Nintendo via PolygonAfter you purchase and download Fortune's Weave's expansion pass, you'll get an in-game notice about the new weapons. It mentions a subquest, but says nothing about what it is or where — or when — to find it. Here's how it works, though.
Each Flame Lord gets one of the new subquests, and the quest becomes available as soon as you get access to the bulletin board in Dagsion. That's roughly during Chapter 4, though when in that chapter depends on the character. Dietrich, for example, has to go through all the city tutorials and a few battles before the board unlocks. Cai does most of that in Chapter 3, so he gets to it faster.
Anyway, you'll know when the board unlocks, as there's a parchment symbol added to the map indicating the bulletin board's location. It's a gold-orange color when a new quest is available.
Image: Intelligent Systems/Nintendo via PolygonThe DLC weapon quest is quick to knock out, too. Pick it up from the bulletin board whenever you can, and then meet the shady person who issued the quest. He's in the "streets" part of the city, just northeast of the market stalls near where you find the beast in the "Monster in the Night" quest. Speak with him, and you'll get that Flame Lord's weapon. You have to do this for each of the four Flame Lords if you want to get all four DLC weapons.
They are:
- Prototype I (Sword, Dietrich)
- Prototype V (Axe, Leda)
- Prototype XI (Bow, Theodora)
- Prototype VII (Spear, Cai)
Any character can use the weapons, even though the game presents them as if they're only meant for a Flame Lord.
Image: Intelligent Systems/Nintendo via PolygonThe weapons are modeled after Hero's Relics from Three Houses, and they have a much lower durability rating compared to other weapons. That means you can use combat arts fewer times before the weapon breaks and you have to repair it at a blacksmith. It's worth the trouble, though. You can upgrade all four Prototype weapons to +2 status, which increases durability and strength. A fully upgraded Prototype weapon is more powerful than a similarly upgraded iron weapon.
If you've already completed a Flame Lord's Part 1, we recommend replaying their Chapter 12 to get the Prototype weapon. Like with any changes made in Part 1, you have to complete the final chapter in that part for any changes to carry over into Parts 2 and 3. If you've already cleared Part 1, it's just a lot faster and easier to grab the weapon in Chapter 12, finish that chapter, and carry on with what you were doing before.
If you're new to Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave, we can help you navigate the complex paths of causality. We have put together explainers on which character you should pick first, how to change heroes, and if you should play in casual or classic mode, so you can set up the campaign according to your preferences.
Fortune's Weave is a massive game, that's why we explain how long it will take for you to finish it. As you progress through the initial Heroic Games matches, you should focus on recruiting more characters, unlocking Boons of Salvation, and spending free time in the best way possible.
