Pokémom Trading Card Game Pocket takes all the fun of collecting Pokémon cards and places them in a mobile game, including some from different regions. Part of that fun is collecting cards in different languages, and TCG Pocket doesn't skip out on that element, either. The game supports nine languages, including the original language of Pokémon cards, Japanese.
Keen-eyed players may have noticed the language option at the top left of each card display. If you're like me, you may have thought initially that this is where you can change languages. That icon is where players can see what other languages they've collected for that specific card. In other words, Pokémon TCG Pocket lets you collect Japanese versions of each card and all the other languages.
How To Add Japanese Cards To Your Pokémon TCG Pocket Collection
There Are Two Easy Ways To Change Card Language In TCG Pocket
Pokémon TCG Pocket cards can be in nine different languages: English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, Traditional Chinese, Korean, and Japanese. There are currently two ways to add Japanese Pokémon cards to your collection.
The first and easiest way to change the app's language to Japanese. Here is how to do that:
- Click on the three-line icon on the bottom right of the main screen.
- Select "Other," then "Settings."
- Scroll down to "Language Selection."
- Choose "日本語" (Japanese) from the drop-down menu.
This will change TCG Pocket's language to Japanese, which includes any cards you pull from booster packs. All newly acquired cards will remain in Jaremain as the app's default language is Japanese. The cards will remain in Japanese even when the language is changed back to English (or whatever your default language is).
The other way to get Japanese-language cards in Pokémon TCG Pocket is through Wonder Picks. I discovered this by accident the first time I picked a card from a Spanish-speaking friend and found that it remained in Spanish once it was in my collection. To get Japanese cards from Wonder Picks requires choosing a card from a Japanese-language Wonder Pick.

You can increase your chances of getting Japanese TCG Pocket cards from Wonder Picks by sending friend requests to Japanese speakers. It's fairly easy to find people who use Japanese as their default language by looking through the community collections and seeing which cards are displayed in Japanese.
Does Pokémon TCG Pocket Let You Have English & Japanese Cards?
Cards in TCG Pocket Will Remain In The Language, With One Exception
Put, any cards you get that are in a different language will remain in that language indefinitely. This means that Pokémon TCG Pocket allows players to collect both English and Japanese cards simultaneously. The only caveat is that you cannot use a Japanese card in a match if your app language isn't Japanese. If your only version of a card is in Japanese, you can use it in a battle in TCG Pocket, but it will be automatically translated into English (or your set app language).
Also, keep in mind that it's possible to sacrifice a foreign language card to create flair. The game will warn you before it does this and even let you select which language cards you want the transfer to use. Other than these two cases, Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket allows avid collectors to catch 'em all in any (or all) of the languages the app supports.
