How to find the flashlight in The Forest

A lifesaver when exploring the nightmare-filled caves of The Forest, getting a flashlight (or a Plastic Torch as referred to in-game) should be one of your main priorities after settling on the Peninsula.

But where exactly is the item located? Here’s where to find and how to quickly get the flashlight (and the Katana while at it) in The Forest.

How to Find and Get the Flashlight and the Katana in The Forest

The Forest players can find both the flashlight and the Katana in the Dead Cave. The cave can be found in the southeast portion of the Peninsula, more specifically in the spot highlighted in the in-game map below. If you haven’t gotten the map and the compass, you can check out how to do it by clicking here or heading further down.

After rappeling down the cave, you will be able to find both the flashlight and the katana by first continuing forward until you spot a second rappel station. We will then use it to go up before heading to the path on the right, as highlighted below. Do not go left, as doing so will alert both an Armsy and a few smaller enemies.

Now, follow the path until you spot the abandoned camp below, which will feature a katana and many high-quality materials. You must pull the katana from the body on the extreme right to acquire it.

With the katana in hand, it’s time to get the flashlight, a feat you can accomplish by heading east from the camp until you spot the set of wooden planks below. The flashlight will be hidden behind the planks and can be grabbed after you break the latter with a few axe strikes.

Make sure to keep in mind that, just like in real life, the flashlight will need a constant supply of batteries to work. You can get batteries in The Forest as a chance drop by opening suitcases.

The Forest Map and Compass Location

After starting your playthrough in The Forest, you will be able to find the map and the compass by a corpse in the Hanging Cave’s first area. You can reach the cave in two ways: by either dying for the first time —which will cause the cannibals to take you and hang you at the cave’s entrance, right by the mentioned corpse— or by heading to Main Cannibal Village and then entering it. The latter method might involve facing a good amount of enemies.

How to Find the Main Cannibal Village

If you don’t fancy dying (although you won’t lose any of your possessions by doing so), you can quickly reach the Main Cannibal Village in The Forest by heading to any of the Peninsula’s shores and then following its cliffs until you spot the hut below. From the hut, follow its makeshift trail to reach the village.

Once at the village, you will be able to spot the entrance to the Hanging Cave by the monument below. To avoid any cannibals that might be nearby, make sure to stay away from the center of the village while searching. I also don’t recommend exploring the depths of the cave during your first visit, as you will find a nightmare fuel boss there.
