While exploring the Miraland world in Infinity Nikki, you will likely come across not just Esselings but Shielded Esselings. While running across the game's vast open world and collecting the abundance of craftable materials, Bling, and Whimstars that are needed to create each of the outfits in the game, Esselings are sure to appear in the wilderness at some of the most random times, which will result in Nikki needing to embrace her combat skills. While Esselings can be defeated with a straight-forward Purification attack, Shielded Esselings might require a little more effort.

Shielded Esselings have the appearance of regular Esselings, but rather than appearing bare-bellied like the others, you will see them covering their torsos with a round, Viking-style wooden shield. The shield provides a layer of protection that is impossible to beat with a Purification hit alone. These Esselings will often be the last of the Esseling types you will try to defeat in any Esselling group you may run into during your adventures exploring Miraland. So, whenever you come across a group of Esselings, be prepared to fight not just the regular ones but at least one or a few of the Shielded Esselings, too.

Best Way To Battle Shielded Esselings

The easiest way to beat Shielded Esselings in Infinity Nikki is more obvious than you might think. The process requires no alternative abilities and simply involves you sneaking around the Shielded Esseling to a side of them that is not covered by the shield, where you can hit them with Purification and defeat them straight away.

It can be a little bit tricky to sneak around them before they turn in the same direction, but by using the Dash movement option, you can reach a good angle pretty quickly.

Another way to defeat Shielded Esselings is by unlocking Whim Fragrances, which can break their shields. To unlock the fragrance, you need to explore caverns in Miraland where you will find the ingredients to craft different Whim Fragrances in the Heart of Infinity. You will then need to equip them with Infinity Nikki's Purification Outfit so you can use them in combat.

The two best Whim Fragrances for combat are Citrus Burst, which will become the Summer Breeze Fragrance, and the Forest Whisper, which will become the Immersed In Thoughts Fragrance. With these two Fragrances equipped in Infinity Nikki, you can break a Shielded Esseling's shield just by running near them.
