One of the three Team Rocket Leaders you can beat in Pokémon GO is Arlo, a scientific genius who returns to challenge trainers who can find him in November 2024. You have to defeat this Leader's Shadow Pokémon across three waves to claim a variety of rare rewards. Those who select the right counters can make the battle against Arlo much easier with a strong enough team.
Before you can face Arlo, you must first beat six different Team Rocket Grunts who spawn near important areas. Only then will you be able to build the Rocket Radar out of Mysterious Components that locate where a Rocket Leader can be found. Simply travel to a Rocket Balloon once you have the radar to either face Arlo, Sierra, or Cliff in Pokémon GO.
Team Rocket Grunts are found during a Team Rocket Takeover event, which usually takes place once per month. For November 2024, you may have to check regularly to see when this event takes place.

When you start the fight against Arlo, you will have to defeat three different Pokémon to secure victory. These Pokémon are presented in three waves, with the first wave only having one possible creature for your team to battle. However, the second and third waves could be one of three Pokémon Arlo chooses at random, making it a bit hard to predict which counters you should bring.

Similar to Dynamax raids in Pokémon GO, it's best to pick counter Pokémon who target the type weaknesses of Arlo's team. While the random nature of the Team Rocket Leader's squad makes it impossible to make a team of perfect counters, you can still prepare ahead of time. , all of Arlo's Pokémon are Shadow variants, which have more health and deal more damage than their normal counterparts. Thankfully, these Pokémon still have the same weaknesses.
One of the best teams of counters you can put together should always include Blaziken for the Pokémon Fire/Fighting-types. Blaziken can counter Beldum, Metagross, Snorlax, and Scizor, making him a solid pick against nearly half of Arlo's potential team. Chandelure could be used to replace Blaziken if you need a Pokémon to face down Hypno's unpredictable Psychic-type attacks.
Try using a fast Electric-type and bulky Water-type to round out the rest of your team. An Electric-type like Magnezone or Electivire could easily deal with Charizard and Gyarados, while a Water-type won't have to worry about taking super-effective damage from any of Arlo's Pokémon. With a bulkier Water-type like Swampert, you can endure some hits and see what option of Arlo's you have to counter.

Like any Team Rocket Leader, you get a chance to catch Arlo's signature Shadow Pokémon after you defeat him in battle. Shadow Pokémon can be caught despite them being owned by enemy trainers due to their unique nature. As a result, you can get a Shadow Beldum from Arlo as an immediate reward for besting him.
The Shadow Pokémon you catch from Arlo has a 1 in 64 chance to be a
Shiny variant in
Pokémon GO
. You may have to do the battle multiple times to get lucky and find a Shiny version of Arlo's Shadow Beldum.
You get item bundles for defeating Arlo as well, including a sum of 1,000 Stardust to spend on whatever you want. You receive two item bundles, which could include:
1x Unova Stone
4x Revive
2x Max Revive
4x Hyper Potion
2x Max Potion
Everyone who takes down Arlo also gains a 12km Strange Egg if they have an available Egg slot in their inventory. This Egg will likely hatch into a rare Pokémon, giving you another great addition to your collection by defeating one of the Team Rocket Leaders. Managing to beat Arlo in Pokémon GO in November 2024 will also lead the way to Giovanni, the head of the criminal organization, who can be challenged for even better rewards.
