With the game in Early Access, there are currently fewer bosses in Hyper Light Breaker than playable characters. However, the two bosses that do exist are quite formidable on their own, and it can be a difficult challenge to face them. Players can find out a fair amount of information about both of these bosses if they are willing to seek it out.
Characters in Hyper Light Breaker are also unlocked by facing these bosses, known as Crown Bosses. They will get an Abyss Stone for every Crown Boss they defeat, which will allow them to test out new characters and try new things in the rest of the game. This makes beating the Crown Bosses fairly essential, and knowing how they work is part of that journey.
The Two Bosses In Hyper Light Breaker's Early Access
The Only Crown Bosses Players Can Currently Face
Dro and Exus are the two current Crown Bosses in Hyper Light Breaker. They are random as to which one players will find when they enter a Crown Boss arena, but both are entirely possible. Exus is a giant warrior with a mastery of flames. He is big, makes charge attacks, and is a very heavy-hitter, often slamming the ground.

Dro, on the other hand, is a wolf-like creature with a blindfold. Players piecing the Fragments together will learn about both of their memories, and they do seem tragic so far. Dro moves very fast and a little unpredictably, and she is much harder to move around than her counterpart. Both Crowns will put up quite a fight when players encounter them.
How Crowns Work In Hyper Light Breaker
How To Face & Find The Crown Bosses
The Crown Bosses have to be faced in order to fight the final boss, which is the Abyss King. The final boss hasn’t been seen yet, as the Early Access game does not feature him in this version. However, each Cycle players will get the chance to face three Crown Bosses. Even though there are three, they will always be Dro or Exus for now.
Players cannot just go face a Crown Boss as soon as they enter the world. In each Cycle, they will first have to collect prisms. Prisms can be gained by facing mini-bosses throughout the world. There are always 6, and they are usually an overpowered version of a different enemy on the map. Be wary, as they are usually more powerful and much more dangerous than their normal counterparts, however, beating one is a significant source of healing in Hyper Light Breaker.
Defeating a prism will fill a node on the world and each Crown Boss. Collecting 2 will unlock the first Crown Boss, 4 will unlock the second, and 6 will unlock the last. Players can go to the Crown Boss as soon as they have the required number of prisms. If the player defeats the Crown Boss, they will collect an Abyss Stone, a number of rewards, and can then go to the Extraction Point. If players do not, they will get another chance at the Crown Boss if they have Resurrects left, otherwise, they will start the next Cycle.
Beating the last Crown Boss at this point will give the player a screen stating that the Abyss King is coming soon. Normally, the Abyss King would be the last thing a player does in a Cycle, but for now players will have to wait.
Will More Bosses Be Added In Early Access?
What Is Known About The Future Of Crown Bosses
While it is not known when, Heart Machine did say in the Early Access trailer that more Crown Bosses would be added as the trial period moved on. For now, any dates or details are unknown, but it appears that they are bringing more when they can. It will be a little while before players know for sure. However, the developers are quite active on the Discord, so players can find out more information there.

Hyper Light Breaker Hands-On Preview: A Roguelite Prequel With A Strong Foundation For Growth
Hyper Light Breaker enters early access this week, and though it plans to evolve before final release, the roguelite already has a lot of potential.
Players will be able to face more bosses soon, whether it is a couple of weeks, months, or early next year. There is notably another boss that can spawn on the map, known as the Last Master, which usually spawns when the Death Meter reaches the halfway point. This is when the map becomes very dangerous for players. Be wary, as the Last Master can follow the player into the Extraction Point if they are running away from him. Otherwise, that is all the bosses that players can face in Hyper Light Breaker for now.
