The biggest thing that many Power Rangers fans will notice is that Legend of the White Dragon is full of former Power Rangers stars. Jason David Frank starred as Tommy Oliver in the original Power Rangers television show. Tommy was the original Green Ranger who then ended up becoming the White Ranger, which is interesting since the title of the new movie has White Dragon in it.

Joining Frank in the movie were Jason Faunt, Ciara Hanna, and Cerina Vincent. Faunt played Alex, the original Red Time Force Ranger, and his descendant, Wesley Collins, in Power Rangers Time Force. Hanna played Gia Moran in Power Rangers Megaforce. Vincent played Maya in Power Rangers Lost Galaxy.

In Legend of the White Dragon, Faunt and Hanna were signed on since the start, when the movie was raising money on Kickstarter, and while Hanna is said to be significant to the story, she is not listed among the lead cast members. Vincent joined the film later, as a replacement for Catherine Sutherland.

Legend of the White Dragon, despite its Power Rangers-heavy cast and Jason David Frank's starring role, is not based on the Power Rangers. The movie takes place three years after a former superhero known as the White Dragon (Frank) went into hiding as a fugitive from justice. He returns to the city he swore to protect and promises to clear his name and reunite the family he has always kept a secret.

However, he faces an evil in Dragon Prime (Aaron Schoenke), a villain who will do anything he can to get revenge on the White Dragon. Clearly, this is not a Power Rangers movie, as it is more of an independent, original superhero film, but there is a lot going on in this movie that is highly influenced by the iconic Power Rangers.

While this is not technically a Power Rangers movie, it is a fantasy-action film that contains the same heart and soul as the beloved former television franchise. It has been nine years since a Power Rangers movie was released, and Legend of the White Dragon is a spiritual successor. That said, it is an R-rated superhero movie, and that is one way that it is more of a martial arts epic than a Power Rangers duplicate.

This was Frank's final movie role, so it should be an emotional one for fans who grew up watching him play Tommy in the original Power Rangers TV show and several of its spinoffs. It was also a passion project for the actor, who wanted to deliver something that he felt was a Power Rangers story, but more for mature audiences, the fans who grew up watching the original show.
