Though he has a particular affinity for multiplayer titles like World of Warcraft, Destiny 2 and League of Legends, he has also put thousands of hours into single-player experiences, from deep RPGs to epic PC strategies. As much as the end of the Game of Thrones show came as a colossal disappointment to almost everyone that watched it, the appetite for more works connected to George RR Martin's work was clearly still present. As such, it was no surprise to see House of the Dragon come along as a prequel to the events of the main series.
It also helps that the show has been very solid by all accounts, filling in some gaps for fans who perhaps haven't managed to get through all the written texts yet. Now, HBO and parent company Warner Bros., who own the rights to all that Westeros goodness, have announced another upcoming release, and it slots in nicely alongside the existing show.
As first reported by Collider, Warner Bros. recently confirmed the global launch of Game of Thrones: Dragonfire, a free-to-play mobile strategy game based on the Emmy Award-winning original drama series.
In confirming the news to the show's considerable fan base, JB Perrette, CEO and President, Global Streaming and Games, Warner Bros. Discovery, shared the following statement:
"We’re thrilled to bring Game of Thrones: Dragonfire to mobile players with an immersive strategy experience that is very authentic to ‘House of the Dragon.’ Our Warner Bros. Boston team did an amazing job creating a game true to the Game of Thrones world for fans, inviting them to build their legacy, forge alliances, and define their own battle for Westeros," he said.
In the game, players step into the role of a rising dragonrider, and descendant of the mythical land of Valyria, who has just bonded with their first dragon. Your ultimate goal is to seize full control of King's Landing, and to make that a reality, you'll have to hatch and grow an army of dragons, increasing their power as you go.
It sounds like a fairly standard approach to mobile game making, with incremental increases in power designed to make you spend as much time with the game as possible, or spend real money to skip the queue.
MoviestillsDBHouse of the Dragon itself is currently airing its third season, with the reception from fans generally as good as it was for the first two. At the same time, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms has also proved popular, meaning we've got plenty to keep us occupied while we wait for George RR Martin to finish his very lengthy work process on The Winds of Winter.
