Ewan is Deputy Editor for ScreenRant's gaming section. He still quite hasn’t gotten out of his mid 00’s emo phase, and knows more about The Legend of Zelda and Doctor Who than is probably healthy.
Ewan oversees the content operation of ScreenRant's gaming output, working with a talented team of writers and editors to cover everything from the latest GTA 6 news to the indie games you need on your radar.
Former Editor of GAMINGbible, Ewan also has words at Kotaku, Den of Geek, NME, and UNILAD. He's appeared on various podcasts, including VGC's and BBC's Let's Talk About Tech.
Fans of Hogwarts Legacy have remained quietly convinced that the sequel is right around the corner. Recent job listings and a new hire have fueled speculation that the sequel is on the horizon, alongside a pretty definitive statement from Warner Bros. that points to a 2027 release window.
Of course, Summer Game Fest came and went with nary a hint of magic wands or Quidditch, which means Hogwarts Legacy 2 is still a ways off for now. Fortunately, there are ways for Harry Potter fans to keep themselves busy in the meantime, and I'm not just talking about the fact the Harry Potter HBO adaptation arrives this Christmas.
If you own Hogwarts Legacy on PC and are interested in new ways to play, I can highly recommend you check out Hogwarts Legacy: Ultimate. This is a complete overhaul of the original game that will completely change your next playthrough. First and foremost, this is a mod designed to ramp up the difficulty for players who want more of a challenge, but there are some other changes worth checking out, too.
What's New In Hogwarts Legacy: Ultimate?
According to the mod's creator, MayKuro, Hogwarts Legacy: Ultimate makes a number of changes largely designed to make the game feel more challenging. It's definitely not for the faint of heart.
Notable changes include tweaks to pricing in stores to add weight to the player's spending and looting choices. The kind of items you find in shops have also been completely overhauled, while income from selling gear, beasts, and disillusionment chests have been rebalanced to be more in line with other sources of income.
Potion and plant grow times have been sped up to help streamline gameplay, and some ingredients have been made harder to find, while others are now more abundant.
All enemy spawns in the overworld are doubled, and kill challenges are doubled but the XP gained is halved. Like I said, definitely not for newcomers. A bunch of changes to spells and abilities have been made, with various buffs and nerfs to try and make combat a little more punishing.
It's definitely more of a challenge, and will certainly keep those who decide to undertake it more than busy until Hogwarts Legacy 2 finally arrives.
If a mod that changes the difficulty isn't exactly your cup of pumpkin juice, there are tons of officially-backed mods available for Hogwarts Legacy that make all manner of changes to the game. You can get your hands on new dungeons to explore, new clothing options, new spells, and all manner of patently ridiculous nonsense like flying cats. There's even a seriously impressive multiplayer mod that's worth a look if you can be bothered to get it up and running.
