A Hogwarts Legacy sequel still hasn’t been officially confirmed or announced, but given the unbelievable success of the first game, it’s seemingly inevitable that Warner Bros. Games will prioritize it. The great thing about a possible Hogwarts Legacy 2 is that the game’s open-world gameplay left plenty of room for a sequel to stretch its legs.
For example, fans have been foaming at the mouth for Hogwarts Legacy 2 to do what the first game didn’t: include a playable Quidditch minigame. However, that’s only one neglected feature players are desperate to see, with many fans being equally excited about the potential for a unique Wizarding World ability and how it could affect their cozy student lives at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
On Reddit, fans are sharing how much they’d love to become an Animagus in Hogwarts Legacy 2, let alone a Metamorphmagus. This would allow players to turn into a particular animal on command, which could greatly impact gameplay, depending on whether it was implemented as a mandatory core feature tied to the sequel’s story and protagonist, or merely an optional ability players could choose to use.
User lilbunxian can’t wait to possibly become an Animagus: “I’ve been eagerly waiting for the opportunity to become an Animagus, I need them to add it this time.” User SortaFunny999 would be excited, too, but mainly hopes that a potential Animagus skill inherits Hogwarts Legacy’s emphasis on customization, ensuring that “if we don't like the form the game gives to us automatically we can choose from a list.”
User anderzekren is still clinging to hope for story-related Hogwarts Legacy DLC, and would like to see it connect to Natsai Onai’s side quest: “The ability to become an Animagus would be an amazing reward for the Natty questline, I agree. I suspect if this comes it would be DLC. I think one of the biggest missed opportunities for Avalanche was the lack of DLC for the first game.”
Of course, if this was an ability at all in Hogwarts Legacy 2’s gameplay, it’d likely need to be baked into the protagonist’s backstory somehow, with players able to transform into an animal from the beginning of the game. This is because the ritual of becoming an Animagus is incredibly time-consuming and arduous, and any attempt to depict it faithfully in-game would break immersion and be quite tedious, especially if Hogwarts Legacy 2 were to adapt to the possible ramifications of botching it.
Perhaps all we’ll ever see of Animagi in Avalanche’s Hogwarts Legacy franchise are characters like Natty. Still, fans getting to be Animagi themselves could be a terrific addition to gameplay.
