Hoda Kotb returned to the Today anchor desk on Monday to fill in for Savannah Guthrie, as the search continues for Guthrie’s mother, Nancy, missing for more than a week.

“We know things are far from normal right now, so folks, we are asking for your grace as we continue to do this,” co-host Craig Melvin told viewers.

Kotb said, “Paramount through all of this — Savannah and her family are our top priority. In addition to that, there is also a job to do.”

Authorities say that there are still no suspects or person of interest in what they are treating as an abduction of Nancy Guthrie from her Tucson-area home. On Saturday, Savannah Guthrie and her siblings posted a new video speaking to their mother’s suspected kidnappers. “We received your message, and we understand,” Savannah Guthrie said in the video. “We beg you now to return our mother to us so that we can celebrate with her. This is the only way we will have peace. This is very valuable to us, and we will pay.”

At the start of Today on Monday, Melvin said that Kotb will be with the show “while Savannah remains with her family in Arizona. We are grateful to have you here.”

Kotb said, “You know Craig, we always talk about our show as a family. We are a family. I am part of the family. I am happy to be with you because we show up for each other.”

The show then went to a news update on the case, including a new search of Nancy Guthrie’s property. NBC News reported that the Guthrie siblings’ latest message was in response to a second note received by a local Tucson TV station.

Kotb co-hosted Today with Guthrie from 2018 to 2025.
