Hillary Clinton’s HiddenLight Behind Kursk Submarine Doc Featuring Bill Clinton

EXCLUSIVE: Hillary Clinton‘s HiddenLight is behind a Sky History documentary series about the Kursk submarine disaster that will for the first time feature her husband Bill Clinton.

Airing later this month, Kursk: 10 Days That Shaped Putin will forensically examine events that started in August 2000 after an explosion onboard the Kursk submarine trapped a group of Russian submariners at the bottom of the Barents Sea. The series questions why Russia’s military and political establishment took so long to alert President Putin to the disaster and took days to accept international assistance, whilst the families of the 118 submariners desperately waited for information.

Kursk: 10 Days That Shaped Putin will feature first-hand testimony from those involved including Bill Clinton, who was U.S. President at the time. Bill Clinton will for the first time be appearing in a show produced by the company run by his wife and daughter. The two-parter will also feature the families of the Kursk submariners following their brave quest for justice, while hearing about how Putin – in his first 100 days of power – reacted to the disastrous press he received.

Hillary Clinton runs HiddenLight with her daughter Chelsea Clinton and Sam Branson. The Clintons are not EPing this series, however, with Amy Flanagan and Liz Collier set to EP Kursk. HiddenLight’s past credits include Zurawski v Texas, Lyra and Move Ya Body: The Birth of House.

“This extraordinary story, which unfolded over just ten days, captured the attention of the world,” said Flanagan. “25 years on, it reveals Putin’s playbook and showed the hallmark of the leader he was to become but it also tells a different, very human story of nations coming together, despite the lies and the chaos, to try and save their fellow sailors.”

Kursk: 10 Days That Shaped Putin was commissioned for Sky History by Dan Korn, VP of Programming Hearst Networks EMEA and Hayley Reynolds, Acting Director of Sky Docs. Producer is Maria Drovnenkova and director is Becky Read. International rights are held by Sphere Abacus.
