Highguard launched last night on Steam, and quickly had an influx of players saddle up to try out the biggest topic in games right now. It turns out, the game proved quite popular on its first day, nearly reaching 100,000 concurrent players during its launch day.

As seen on SteamDB, Highguard reached 97,249 players at around 7pm GMT. It then steadily decreased as the night went on. Whether or not the game will see similar peaks throughout the week, or will even hit a new peak record this weekend, remains to be seen.

Unfortunately, the game has also received an influx of negative Steam reviews. Currently Mostly Negative, many have criticised the map size and the 3v3 game format. Now, it's still early days, and maybe Highguard will get its hooks into a solid community in the coming days, but for now it's looking a little rough.

Highguard has been the topic of discussion as of late due to a very hands-off approach to marketing. Since its reveal at The Game Awards, where it took the final headline spot at the event, the official social media accounts were radio silent until a few days ahead of launch. That, and an early reveal of the Highguard trophy list were all people really had to go on.

Can Highguard live up to expectations and prove doubters wrong, or is this the beginning of a very rocky road for Wildlight? Let us know what you think below.
