Nearly a decade-and-a-half after Heroes went off the air, the classic Aughts TV sensation is getting another major reboot in the form of the recently announced Heroes: Eclipsed. Debuting in 2006, the show was created by Tim Kring and follows ordinary people around the globe who discover that they suddenly have superpowers and must put them to good use to save the world. The first season was one of the pinnacles of 2000s TV, and it helped to shape the blossoming TV revolution that would explode in the early years of the 2010s.

Heroes' four seasons on the air were anything but smooth, and the show quickly took a nosedive after its first season captured audiences and earned it critical acclaim. Each subsequent season performed worse and worse with critics and in the ratings until Heroes was canceled after season 4 to the shock and surprise of its die-hard fanbase. 2015's Heroes Reborn was scrapped after one season, and it seemed as if Tim Kring's great contribution to TV history would remain just that. Now, a new reboot of the show has been announced and Heroes: Eclipsed can finally fix the franchise.

Another Heroes Reboot Is Coming

Just when it seemed as if the franchise had finally ended, it was announced that a new Heroes reboot is in the works from the show's original creator. The announcement came 14 years after Heroes' shocking cancelation and nearly 10 years after 2015's Heroes Reborn faded into obscurity after a lone season. Tim Kring's involvement does elevate the project beyond a cynical cash-grab, but there's no denying that intellectual property is king in modern media.

With nostalgia at an all-time high, and established franchises like gold in the movie and TV business, the time is right for a Heroes reboot. Few details are known about the new show, but it will be set several years after the original series, and will presumably match the amount of time that's passed in real life. With a lot of unanswered questions from the original series, Heroes: Eclipsed has a lot to say, but it must avoid the same pitfalls that damned the original series nearly 15 years ago.

Who Is Making Heroes: Eclipsed?

The Original Writer Returns

the success of the new reboot will likely hinge on the nostalgia factor of bringing back actors to their classic roles

Though only one name is attached to Heroes: Eclipsed at this point, it is an important one and does bode well for the reboot's success. Tim Kring will be on hand to usher the new reboot into the world, and he created both Heroes series and served as one of the franchise's primary writers. Since NBC was the network that carried both original shows, it stands to reason that the peacock will be involved somehow, but it isn't clear if it will air on network TV or as a streaming exclusive.

No names have been disclosed for the cast, but it has been teased that some of the original characters from Heroes could return. One of the criticisms of Heroes Reborn was that it ignored original characters, and the success of the new reboot will likely hinge on the nostalgia factor of bringing back actors to their classic roles. It's not clear how far along the development is on the show, and no release date or production timeline has been announced yet.

Heroes aired its final episode on February 8, 2010.

Even if older storylines don't dominate Heroes: Eclipsed , the new series can deliver an exciting product while also answering the burning questions of long-time fans

Nothing is known about the specifics of the show's story, but it stands to reason that it will follow a similar structure as the original. A new batch of ordinary people will wake up with newfound superpowers and they will be torn between the desire to do what is right and the desire to act upon their new abilities. Though there will undoubtedly be new "heroes", it has also been teased that original characters could return as well.

The fourth season of Heroes left a lot of questions for the reboot to answer, and fans are still dying for a resolution to plotlines that were abandoned nearly 15 years ago. Character arcs like Mohinder's were left open-ended, and the true fate of Claire still needs to be settled among a wealth of other loose ends. Even if older storylines don't dominate Heroes: Eclipsed, the new series can deliver an exciting product while also answering the burning questions of long-time fans.
