2024 is the year of the lip balms, and as someone with severely chapped lips, I'm invested in finding formulas that will alleviate dryness and infuse my lips with long-lasting hydration. Brands are coming out with sophisticated formulas that incorporate skin-care ingredients like ceramides, hyaluronic acid, and peptides to actually improve the look of your lips over time with continued use. From tinted glossy balms to conditioning butters, there are so many high-quality lip balms to choose from, and thanks to Suni Lee's viral lip routine, the internet and I have found our new go-to.

Lee loves topping off her everyday lip combo with Ole Henriksen Pout Preserve Peptide Lip Treatment ($22), and it is the latest lip balm to go viral thanks to its cushion-like formula. Once I got my hands on it after weeks of it being sold out, I couldn't use anything else. Ahead, you can read my in-depth review of Ole Henriksen Pout Preserve Peptide Lip Treatment along with swatches of each shade, and see if it's worth the hype.

What I Like About the Ole Henriksen Pout Preserve Peptide Lip Treatment

You would think there are only so many ways to formulate a hydrating lip balm, but Ole Henriksen manages to outshine the competition with its unique cushion-like formula. The lip treatment has a thick, creamy texture that delivers a smooth glide, but it's not sticky. Unlike other lip balms on the market, the Pout Preserve Peptide Lip Treatment doesn't sit on top of the lips like an occlusive. Instead, the formula actually sinks into the skin and delivers hydration to every layer. It's one of the few lip balms that I don't have to constantly reapply because the moisture and conditioning are layers deep and, therefore, long-lasting. I also notice an improvement in the look of my lips by consistently using the lip treatment. Over time, the dryness and flakiness diminished, and my lips didn't feel so chapped. They look and feel healthier with a more soft and supple appearance.

The Pout Preserve Peptide Lip Treatment delivers sheer enough tint that most shades are actually universally flattering. My go-to's are Cocoa Crème and Crème Brûlée, which give my lips that "my lips but better look" and complement my everyday nude lip. The Strawberry Sorbet has a pale pink tint that brings out the natural pink tones of my lips. Because Citrus Sunshine is not tinted, I primarily use it during my nighttime routine. I can use all four flavors without worrying that the tones wash me out.

How to Use the Ole Henriksen Pout Preserve Peptide Lip Treatment

The Pout Preserve Peptide Lip Treatment can be worn by itself for a natural wash of color, paired with a lip liner like Suni Lee, or coated on top of other lip products. It has a glossy finish, so you can swap out your lip gloss for this lip treatment for a boost of hydration. It has a silicone tip that hugs my lips so I can liberally apply it all over. Since my lips get extra dry during the wintertime, I apply a few drops of hyaluronic acid serum on my lips first, then layer this lip treatment on top.

What to Consider Before Trying the Ole Henriksen Pout Preserve Peptide Lip Treatment

The Pout Preserve Lip Treatment has a thicker feel compared to other popular glossy balms on the market. If you prefer a thinner formula or something that has the slip of a lip oil, this might not be the right texture for you.

Although Cocoa Crème is said to be a chocolate brown, I found that it has red undertones that give it more of a burgundy look rather than a true brown shade.

Because of its virality, the Pout Preserve Peptide Lip Treatment is often sold out, especially in popular tinted shades like Cocoa Crème and Cocoa Crème. If you want to mimic that natural, nude lip look those shades provide, I suggest using a neutral-toned lip liner or a lip stain underneath the Citrus Sunshine shade.
