Henry Cavill has been incredibly unlucky in Hollywood despite being widely beloved, but that could all be set to change with his next major franchise role. Henry Cavill is built to be a leading man. That's simply a fact that has seen this spectacular actor rise to the top of casting for numerous incredible projects and land leading roles in projects like the DCEU and The Witcher.
However, when the DCEU continued to falter, Cavill's Superman was absent for years, only to return briefly in Black Adam and then be discarded with the rest of the flailing universe. And as for The Witcher, Cavill's passion and creativity appear to have clashed with the vision, or perhaps lack thereof, of other creatives. But now, things could be set to change for the better.
Highlander Gives Henry Cavill His Next Fantasy Franchise
The original Highlander debuted in 1986, when Christopher Lambert took on the role of Connor MacLeod. MacLeod was a Scottish Highlander, but upon discovering that he is part of an extremely rare race of immortal warriors, his life is forever altered.
He goes on to learn that there is an eternal rivalry between the immortals, who duel to the death in order to determine who is the strongest, worthy of an ultimate prize. This wonderful fantasy premise provides the perfect foundation for Cavill to tackle a new leading role.
Why Henry Cavill Is The Perfect Choice For Highlander
Custom Image by Yailin ChaconHenry Cavill is a large, imposing figure who is a perfect fit to play heroes like Superman and Geralt. Not only is he physically the right choice to take on a role like this, but he appears to have a deep passion for fantasy stories and moral narratives that explore conflict between good and evil. Highlander does all of that and gives Cavill a chance to immerse himself in a new fantasy world with rich lore.
How Cavill's Connor MacLeod Will Be Different From His Geralt
While both the worlds of Highlander and The Witcher are steeped in fantasy, The Witcher leans more heavily into magic, mysticism, and monsters. Meanwhile, Highlander provides a world that is largely similar to the real world, merely with the addition of a small group of immortals who pursue their own interests while the rest of the world ages and wears away.
With that in mind, Geralt is a protagonist who is beyond human, with inherent powers that allow him to excel as a monster hunter. Geralt is also a more morally ambiguous character who has varying interests that lead him to act in ways that a purely good character usually wouldn't.
While Connor MacLeod is by no means perfect, he has a strong sense of morality and justice. His life as an immortal is a strange one because he never sought out eternal life, and the game he was forced to compete in was not something he chose. Instead, Connor fights for what is right and opposes outright evil characters. Which allows Highlander to focus more on the conflict and character at its center, rather than the wider world built around the Witchers.
