Helena Bonham Carter has broken cover for the first time after leaving The White Lotus just nine days into filming.

The actress abruptly exited the fourth series of the hit HBO show because of apparent creative differences between her and its director.

Helena, 59, has since returned to the UK from filming in the South of France and was been spotted in North London on Tuesday as she stopped to fill up her car with petrol.

The Harry Potter star caught the eye in a long pink patterned fur coat with bold red edging on the collar and cuff.

She layered the number over a floral dress and green cardigan and kept comfortable in a pair of chunky beige trainers.

Styling her long locks in a messy up do, Helena was pictured walking back to her car.

It comes as TV bosses insisted Helena agreed to part ways from The White Lotus because of disagreements over her character.

But speculation was rife in showbusiness circles this week, with one source suggesting the star's departure may have had more to do with a 'clash' with one of her co-stars.

The source, who asked not to be named, said: 'The word is Helena left because of a clash with Sandra Bernhard.' However, Helena's camp denied the claim last night, insisting the pair had never even met, though they declined to say what had happened.

The actress was the first big name to sign up to the fourth series, which also stars Steve Coogan and Heather Graham.

The hit HBO show follows the antics of a group of disparate characters in a luxury holiday resort, with each series set in a different location and boasting a new cast of characters. The latest series is mainly set at the Airelles Chateau de la Messardiere in Saint-Tropez in the South of France.

Fans had welcomed Helena's casting, particularly after it emerged her role had been written specifically for her.

Sandra whose big-screen credits include The King of Comedy and Marty Supreme, joined the show in February.

It comes as Helena's replacement has been announced as Laura Dern.

The publication indicates that the 59-year-old is not taking over the exact role Helena was meant to play but will be playing a new character.

Dern has had a working relationship with showrunner White for years, as she starred in his directorial debut, Year Of The Dog, in 2007 before collaborating again on HBO comedy-drama series Enlightened for two seasons from 2011 to 2013.

It emerged that filming had commenced earlier this month on the hit HBO show, an anthology series with a new storyline set in a different exotic locale each season.

Season four would have seen Helena join an all-star cast including Heather Graham, Sandra Bernhard, Vincent Cassel, Steve Coogan and Rosie Perez.

However, HBO released a statement on Friday announcing Helena's departure from the show over creative concerns involving her role.

'With filming just underway on season four of The White Lotus, it had become apparent that the character which Mike White created for Helena Bonham Carter did not align once on set,' the network revealed to TMZ.

'The role has subsequently been rethought, is being rewritten and will be recast in the coming weeks,' continued the premium cable broadcaster.

Representatives for Bonham Carter declined the Daily Mail's request for comment.

In their statement, the network noted: 'HBO, the producers and Mike White are saddened that they won’t get to work with her, but remain ardent fans and very much hope to work with the legendary actress on another project soon.'

Fans flocked to social media, bewailing the news, leaving comments such as: 'Oh my she’s the one I’m looking forward to seeing in this season!!!!'

Dismayed Instagram users posted reactions like: 'I’m depressed,' 'So the main character is gone…,' and: 'NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.'

Created by White, the show revolves around the exploits of the guests and staff at a different location of the titular hotel chain every season.

Laura Dern has since been announced as Helena's replacement for season four of the popular HBO series created by Mike White, according to Variety

Originally, the through-line was the Jennifer Coolidge character Tanya McQuoid, a daffy, rich older lady who led the first two seasons while the rest of the cast changed.

The buzzy third season went viral for the incest sex scene between brothers played by 'nepo baby' heartthrobs Patrick Schwarzenegger and Sam Nivola, as well as for the rumors of a feud between co-stars Walton Goggins and Aimee Lou Wood.

While the first three seasons were set in Hawaii, Sicily and Thailand, the fourth will unfold mainly on the French Riviera and partly in Paris.

The storyline will center on the Cannes Film Festival, peopled by a cast including Hollywood names like Kumail Nanjiani, Ari Graynor, Chloe Bennet, Max Greenfield and AJ Michalka, as well as Australian unknown Caleb Jonte Edwards.
