Heated Rivalry is getting the musical treatment. Unauthorized, to be sure.
Following eight sold-out concert presentations earlier this month, Heated Rivalry: The Unauthorized Musical Parody will be staged in a full Off Broadway run this spring, with Jay Armstrong Johnson (Broadway’s Parade) as Ilya Rozanov and Jimin Moon (Broadway’s Sunset Blvd.) as Shane Hollander.
Performances begin on Tuesday, May 12, at the 6th Floor Theater (formerly The McKittrick Hotel) in Manhattan’s Chelsea neighborhood. Opening night of the eight-week-engagement is Tuesday, May 26.
Written by Dylan MarcAurele, the parody will be produced and directed by Alan Kliffer, who announced the Off Broadway run today. The production will also star Ryann Redmond, Cherry Torres and Ryan Duncan.
Inspired by the TV show, Heated Rivalry: The Unauthorized Musical Parody follows, as the announcement notes, “starry-eyed golden boy Shane Hollander on his journey from power center to power bottom.”
The synopsis: “Relive all of the moments from the show that made you wet (with tears) up close on the small-stage by an incredible cast of Broadway actors who thought they were auditioning to be in Season 2. Sporting a bop-infused score, scene-stealing cameos by characters like ‘Rose Landry’ and ‘Ilya’s Ass’, and time jumps absolutely no one can keep track of, audiences will find themselves hot, bothered, and probably saying, ‘….Girl!'”
The creative team for Heated Rivalry: The Unauthorized Musical Parody includes Dylan MarcAurele (Book, Music, Lyrics and Orchestrations), Alan Kliffer (Direction), Brooke & Tiffany Engen (Choreography), Sully Ross (Scenic Design), Brendan McCann (Costume Design), Devin Cameron (Lighting Design) and Germán Martinez (Sound Design).
Heated Rivalry: The Unauthorized Musical Parody is produced by Klif Entertainment.
Johnson was most recently seen as Christian in the North American tour of Moulin Rouge! The Musical. In addition to Parade, his Broadway credits include Hair, On the Town, Hands on a Hardbody, Catch Me If You Can and The Phantom of the Opera. TV and film credits include Quantico, Sex & the City 2 and Law & Order: SVU.
In addition to Sunset Blvd., Moon has appeared on Broadway in Lempicka and Disney’s Aladdin.
