Dating all the way back to 1999 with The Sopranos, HBO has released what many would agree are some of the greatest TV shows of all time. Between the aforementioned gangster epic saga and other crime shows like The Wire, HBO has proven to be the premier home for the most prestigious shows in the world. The network made the right call years ago, acquiring the rights to George R.R. Martin’s hit fantasy novels, which have since been adapted into multiple shows like Game of Thrones, House of the Dragon, and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.
One of HBO’s best shows that has ever aired on the network was Succession, which first premiered back in 2018 and ran for four seasons until 2023. The show is based on the Murdoch family, who run the massive media empire behind Fox News, and it co-stars Jeremy Strong, Brian Cox, Kieran Culkin, Matthew Macfadyen, Sarah Snook, and more. The critically acclaimed drama series hails from creator Jesse Armstrong, and it holds scores of 95% from critics and 88% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes. Mark Mylod has directed the most episodes of Succession at 16.
It’s been over two years, closer to three, since HBO released an episode of Succession, but the show is staging an epic streaming comeback. Not only is it in the top 10 on HBO Max in several countries, but it’s also surged into the VOD top 10 in several countries that don’t have access to HBO Max. There have been whispers in the last few years about a potential Succession revival or reboot series, but anytime someone involved in the show is asked about it, they shut it down immediately.
What Else Is Streaming on HBO Max Right Now?
The most popular show on HBO Max right now is A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, the aforementioned Game of Thrones spin-off that has only one episode remaining in its premiere season. To reach the top spot, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms had to overtake The Pitt, the acclaimed medical drama starring Noah Wyle that’s in the heat of its sophomore season. Heated Rivalry, the spicy hockey drama that’s taking the world by storm, is hanging around in the HBO Max top 10, along with Primal, Doc, and Industry.
Check out all episodes of Succession on HBO Max, and stay tuned to Collider for more streaming updates.
