It’s a particularly cheeky way of giving fans their first “look” at Voldemort without actually showing his face or revealing who will ultimately play him — unless Cillian Murphy is hiding under there — because what we're seeing is a look at Luke Thallon as Quirrell staring directly into the camera while wearing the distinctive head covering concealing Voldemort on the back of his head.
Another shot shows the Great Hall packed with students beneath newly designed house banners, while Dominic McLaughlin appears as Harry with his wand drawn. HBO has also released a new look at Nick Frost (Hot Fuzz) as Rubeus Hagrid and Katherine Parkinson (The IT Crowd) as Molly Weasley surrounded by her children at the Burrow.
The cast is led by McLaughlin as Harry Potter, alongside Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley, alongside Lox Pratt as Draco Malfoy, Johnny Flynn (One Life) as Lucius Malfoy, Parkinson as Molly Weasley and Anton Lesser (Andor) as Garrick Ollivander.
Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone is written and executive produced by Francesca Gardiner, with Mark Mylod executive producing and directing multiple episodes. The series will premiere on HBO and HBO Max at Christmas 2026.
