Hayden Panettiere's mother surfaces for the first time since skipping her daughter's Malibu memorial due to 'family emergency'

Hayden Panettiere's mother, Lesley Vogel, has remerged publicly for the first time since skipping her daughter's memorial in Malibu last month.

Vogel, 70, and her daughter were estranged when the Nashville star died on August 16 of an accidental overdose of multiple drugs including fentanyl, one week after police officers had made a welfare check on the actress in West Hollywood.

Vogel, a one-time actress and producer who served as Panettiere's 'momager' during her upbringing, was spotted on Thursday raking leaves in her yard in South Carolina before heading to the park.

Vogel appeared to be made up with red lipstick, eye shadow, blush and pink manicure as she strolled down a residential sidewalk with her brunette hair piled on top of her head in a casual updo.

She was dressed in a white flowing camisole, flashy print leggings and beige lace-up boots, an outfit that was accessorized with gold jewelry and a pair of sunglasses hanging from her blouse.

The sighting comes almost two weeks after 150 friends and former co-stars gathered at Malibu Pacific Church to honor Panettiere's memory.

Panettiere's father, Skip Panettiere, 67, was there, but Vogel was not.

It was initially reported by TMZ that Vogel was purposely left off the guest list, along with Panettiere’s on-and-off boyfriend, Brian Hickerson.

But a source close to Vogel disputed the claim, telling TMZ that she was invited to the service but was unable to attend due to a 'family emergency.'

The service was described as 'emotional and beautiful,' per the outlet, and saw Nashville alums Connie Britton and Charles Esten give speeches, while the actor also sang one of Panettiere's songs from their show, accompanied by a band at the church.

Among those in attendance were Paris Hilton, Evan Ross, Lennon Stella, Sam Palladio, Jonathan Jackson and Ruby Rose.

Hickerson and his brother, Zach Hickerson - who were both present at the South Carolina Airbnb where Panettiere died - were not invited to the intimate event.

But sources close to the brothers previously told TMZ that Hickerson and Zach recognized the sensitivity surrounding the service and were not challenging the organizers’ decision to exclude them.

The sources added the brothers hoped the gathering would be a 'beautiful celebration of Hayden, her life and her legacy.'

Hickerson and Zach have maintained they had nothing to do with Panettiere's death.

According to the Greenville Police Department's incident report, Zach told police that Hickerson was sleeping in a separate room of the Airbnb when he arrived and found the actress unresponsive in a chair.

Zach stated that Hickerson administered Narcan - a medication that reverses opioid overdoses - and that they performed CPR while communicating with 911 dispatchers.

Hickerson met with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) amid their investigation into the actress' suspected overdose death, TMZ previously reported.

Local and federal investigators reportedly believe the actress was sold drugs that may have caused her death, and authorities are now focused on identifying the suspected dealer.

Panettiere had a volatile and tumultuous on-and-off relationship with Hickerson beginning in 2018.

Hickerson was arrested and charged for domestic violence involving Panettiere multiple times.

In 2021, he pleaded no contest to two felony counts of injuring a spouse or girlfriend, resulting in jail time, probation, domestic violence classes, $500 in restitution, and a five-year protective order, per People.

Last week, a spokesman for the Greenville County Coroner’s Office confirmed to the Daily Mail that Panettiere died from the 'toxic effects' of multiple drugs - including fentanyl - and that her death was accidental.

Just a few grains of powerful opioid fentanyl, which is 50 times stronger than heroin, can cause a fatal overdose.

'An autopsy was completed by a Board Certified Forensic Pathologist. At autopsy no signs of trauma were discovered that would have contributed to the death,’ a spokesperson said.
