The Master Chief Collection (aka Halo: MCC) is the definitive Halo experience, offering players the opportunity to play all their beloved classics in the franchise in one place. Fans of the franchise just got an awesome new update for Halo: MCC, and it's an exciting development as players gear up for the official launch of Halo: Campaign Evolved later this year.

While there haven't been any major updates to MCC in a while, they've just released a surprise update that allows players to access a ton of previously locked content in the Exchange "in perpetuity" (via Steam). The update will also bring back a ton of limited-edition content that was "vaulted" after its short run.

Halo: The Master Chief Collection Is Back

While the newest surprise Halo: MCC update doesn't include any overhauls to systems, bug fixes, or new gameplay features, it does introduce a great opportunity for players to grab a ton of fresh content that was previously inaccessible or only available for a limited time.

The update focuses on making more content available in the Exchange, a feature that was added to Halo: MCC post-launch, which gave players limited-time opportunities to claim various cosmetics, emotes, etc. The newest update adds a load of previously unavailable limited-edition content, such as a handful of Halo 4 weapon skins and "seasonal/rotational nameplates."

Most importantly, nearly all the Exchange content—both new and old—will be made available in perpetuity, with only a few items being put on a quarterly rotation schedule. For example, while most gear cosmetics will be listed on the Exchange year-round, items like the Orion collection will be listed only for one quarter, (e.g., January to March).

Halo Fans Can Grab The New Update Now

You'll be able to download the new update for Halo: MCC simply by logging in to your account, and it's available to claim now for free if you already own the game. If there's some flashy gear that you missed out on previously and thought you'd never get a chance to claim it again, this new update very likely will give you another shot.

This is the perfect time to dive back into Halo: MCC as players ramp up for the 2026 release of the Halo: CE remake, which will be Master Chief's debut appearance on the PlayStation 5. While a specific release date is still unavailable, there's likely going to be an announcement with many more details in the coming weeks ahead. Overall, it's a great time to be a Halo fan, with a lot to be excited for this year.
