Out of every Halo game released over the years, few entries in the series have managed to reach the same cult status as its prequel spin-off, Halo: Reach. Even with the release of the latest Halo: Campaign Evolved, one of the only things on fans' minds is what this could mean for the possibility of a similar Halo: Reach remake with the same level of quality and additional content as the newest outing in the franchise.
Considering that Halo: Reach is still getting official new content for fans to enjoy over 16 years since its initial release, it's not hard to see why fans are ramping up the excitement alongside the release of Halo: Campaign Evolved, which offers a prequel story of its own for fans to enjoy as well.
Reddit user steelandiron19 sparked a conversation about the future of the series following the release of Halo: Campaign Evolved, asking fans if they believe that "if Campaign Evolved does well, they'll re-do Reach and release it on PS5 too?" Based on the responses, Halo fans are already thinking seriously about the possibilities to come.
Although Halo Studios hasn't put out any official word on what remakes fans can expect to look forward to after the release of Campaign Evolved, fans are already convinced the newest outing is only the tip of the iceberg for the series. Roto_disc takes a somewhat mercenary view of the situation, positing that Halo Studios will "redo everything until it stops making money."
Other fans, like IlyasBT, have pointed out that past leaks suggest that Halo Studios has already started planning "to remake 2 & 3 after this." Still, that hasn't stopped fans from wishing that Reach would be one of the next on the chopping block, or at least getting a remake in the future given how beloved it is within the community.
Although much of this excitement stems from the fact that the next-generation versions of the classic sci-fi shooter franchise are finally making their way over to PlayStation, Hobolad07 raises the concern that Halo likely won't return to PlayStation "under this new leadership," as Xbox has emphasized a renewed focus on internal exclusivity for first-party games.
While it wouldn't be too surprising if future Halo remakes didn't make their way to PlayStation consoles in the future, it would be far more confusing if Halo Studios didn't continue with an emphasis on remakes. The direction of recent entries in the series has invoked a very mixed reaction, and while Campaign Evolved has also earned plenty of skeptics, it's already popular among fans.
Although it would make a bit more sense that the studio would probably complete remakes of the Bungie trilogy before possibly taking on Reach, there's no shortage of storylines to carry over from the novels that expand each Halo entry. Abject-Dinner-8740 also points to a major advantage of remaking Reach, as the studio could "add some of the cut content" that never made its way into the final version of the game.
If we know one thing for sure, it's that there are plenty of expanded stories and new lore from other media in the series that are just waiting to get their chance to shine in future remasters, especially for incredibly popular entries like Halo: Reach. Regardless of which direction Halo Studios decides to go down after the release of Halo: Campaign Evolved, there's no shortage of opportunities at hand.
