Halo won't quit, even if the fandom doesn't react well to everything it puts out. The TV series was polarizing, to say the least, and each individual game has its ups and downs for the community. But there's still plenty of supplemental material, remasters and remakes, and spinoffs to tinker with between mainline entries.
The next big Halo release is coming sooner than expected, too, following the launch of Halo: Campaign Evolved. Thankfully, it's giving us a whole new story rather than adapting an existing one. Based on new info from Halo Waypoint, it looks like Halo: Fireteam Noble will be arriving in 2027.
Officially revealed by the Halo team, Halo: Fireteam Noble will arrive in 2027 and be written by Troy Denning. As a serial writer of Halo novels, Denning is a clear fit for this project. While Waypoint Chronicles was one of the latest releases for the series, working as an anthology of sorts, Fireteam Noble is the next book in line for the franchise.
Here's a quick blurb to give you an idea of when the story takes place: "2560. The galaxy remains fractured in the devastating wake of Cortana’s rise and the Created menace, while the Banished war machine relentlessly consolidates power across former Covenant space. To help counter these ongoing and emerging threats to humanity, Spartan Jun-A266—the last surviving member of Noble Team—struggles to forge a new generation of warriors on the hidden UNSC base Anvil Station, even as he battles the ghosts of his own past."
As far as the main character, Jun, is concerned, they've been a part of multiple other books, including Initiation, New Blood, Bad Blood, and Waypoint Chronicles. In fact, Jun is on the cover of Waypoint Chronicles, and the stories "Battle for the Academy" and "Winter Contention" feature them directly.
It seems like Fireteam Noble will deal with some of the lesser-known sides of the Halo universe, especially when it comes to pitting sides against each other: "When a renowned xenoarcheologist is brazenly abducted by a Banished strike team, Jun is pulled back into active operations alongside both old and new allies for a dangerous rescue mission, leading them all deep into hostile territory. Now Jun must confront the burden of survival and decide what it truly means to carry Noble Team’s legacy into a new era of conflict as this desperate mission may hold dire consequences far beyond a single missing civilian."
Right now, Fireteam Noble is slated for a March 2027 release, but it's "subject to change." Halo fans might have to wait a long time between new entries, but there are plenty of other things to cling to in the meantime.
