After the initial Halo trilogy, a lot of lore is hazy among the community. While there are plenty of dedicated fans who track every novel and every member of ODST, once the series moved past Halo 3, more tie-ins were released that expanded the universe beyond the story of Master Chief.
It turns out there are a lot of stories to tell, and many fans are content with just following ODST and other non-Chief-related factions rather than the man himself. Still, every time he suits up and Steve Downes' voice hits, a lot of those same fans are ready to return to the classic Halo experience.
No matter what kind of fan you are, thanks to a brand-new official Halo release, you can revisit the world of Halo. Over on Reddit, fans are already discussing some major lore revelations, which help set the table for the saga to come.
Arriving recently, Halo: Waypoint Chronicles Volume 1 collects multiple stories in the Halo universe, with some serving as prequels and others filling in various bits of the franchise's decades-long history.
For reference, here's the official breakdown: "Delve once more into stories of legendary heroism and star-spanning conflicts—from the time of the ancient Forerunners to the perils of a twenty-sixth century clash between the United Nations Space Command and the Banished alien alliance. Halo: Waypoint Chronicles — Volume One collects over thirty short stories from all corners of the Halo universe, including twenty-four adventures previously only available online, plus ten brand-new tales exclusive to this collected volume! Also included are dozens of additional pieces of lore-laden intel items and story vignettes connected to the Halo Infinite game experience."
As you can easily surmise, Waypoint Chronicles is going to span multiple eras, digging into the very core of the Halo series. It makes sense that there would be new discoveries, and fans are already talking about them.
"Ghosts of the Gyre has me DYING for the next Halo game," one writes. "Ghosts of the Gyre was pretty nutty, and I liked that one alot. Granted, my preferred corner of the Halo universe is the ancient/cosmic side, but it was still pretty nutty. Shalimanda is very... interesting to think about. There's some shadowy connection between the Ancestors and the Endless, and I'm not sure what it is, but I do believe the answer is available to us in the lore we have already."
Most hardcore fans give it a hearty recommendation: "To be honest, the new stories included in this collection gave little insight into the current predicament and/or potential future of the canon, but they do a really good job of taking vastly different perspectives from across the galaxy and fleshing them out."
If you're curious, one user helpfully explains what the first volume of Halo: Waypoint Chronicles actually contains: "It's all the released chronicles + all the multiplayer intel drops + all the Armory Infinitum flash fiction pieces + several new chronicles unavailable on Waypoint."
