An experienced Editor representing Canada via ScreenRant's Team Anime, J.R. has been reading manga since the first printing of Shonen Jump in North America. This passion drove him to write about anime, manga, and manhwa since 2022, having recently served as Lead Anime Editor for ComicBook.com.
His favorite moments in media coverage include reviewing the series premieres of Zom 100 and Bleach: TYBW Part 2 back-to-back and briefly meeting Junji Ito at a VIZ gallery event in 2023.

Entertainment in its many forms is at a prominent crossroads in the face of changing landscapes, risky and damaging new tech trends, and rapid multimedia consolidation for its biggest brands. It's difficult to fathom in the face of company closures and thousands of layoffs, and with a future in flux, it's difficult to know where top talent may end up next. But Halo, Halo 2, and Destiny project lead and director Jason Jones and New York Times #1 bestselling author Margaret Stohl (Beautiful Creatures, Captain Marvel, Spider-Man: Noir) have teamed up to unveil a new collaboration bringing together talent from video games, comics, books, television, and film: Stone Kite.
Based in Los Angeles, Stone Kite has been in the works for four years thanks to contributions from over 200 prominent creators. It promises an impressive crescendo of content beyond dabbling with individual new IP, creating robust universes, including a gorgeous comic book launching today authored by Jones himself. This new universe, and the many other projects accompanying it, will feature talents across multiple industries with plans already in place to accompany its first work on the page, via audio, and on the screen, starting with One Zero One.

Jones and Stohl have been hard at work alongside other founding members to make Stone Kite into a fascinating collective of influential figures across popular entertainment in the West. Marvel Comics Editor-in-Chief Stephen Wacker, film and TV writer Matt Johnson (Truth Be Told, Into the Blue), Marvel, DC, and BOOM! Studios editor Jeanine Schaefer, and Activision Blizzard executive and former Studio 7 CEO Lewis Peterson are each among the founding members as well.
While not explicitly mentioning gaming as part of their roadmap, ScreenRant's request for comment was not given a firm answer, with freedom to speculate on whether Stone Kite has a place for games now or in the future. With Griffin Gaming Partners prominently listed among Stone Kite's investors, and the vast majority of their investments including game developers and companies like Marvel Snap's Second Dinner, this could be a strong hint for future announcements. Alternately, Jones' presence alone might sufficiently explain this particular backer. But as Stone Kite will quickly show, it's interested in creating something games alone can't fully capture.
I've spent my career creating books, games, comics, film and television, and I've seen how often the medium that tells the first story ends up defining everything that comes after it.
Stone Kite is about breaking down those old media silos. Instead of starting in one medium and adapting outward, we bring the best global creators from different disciplines into the room from day one to shape the world together. We change the conversation. We never say that’s how it’s traditionally done. We build communities, and we listen to them. That’s how we’re creating worlds that people can explore for decades, in whatever ways they want.
-Margaret Stohl, CEO and Co-founder of Stone Kite
As stated above, Stohl illustrates the collaborative efforts needed to create a sustainable universe with a roadmap in place, while intending to be around for the long haul. These are lofty promises, as high-profile attempts to create lasting universes, particularly in cinema franchises, have struggled or failed while others are either uneven successes or industry-leading examples. To mix in projects like comics, prose, and onscreen entertainment, albeit with no explicit mention of gaming, is still a major undertaking.
Other confirmed Stone Kite collaborators adding to the content slate include, but are not limited to:
- Film Director Jay Roach (Austin Powers, Meet the Parents, Trumbo)
- Comics Artist & Writer Christian Ward (Batman: City of Madness, Invisible Kingdom)
- Poster Illustrator Kyle Lambert (Stranger Things)
- Novelist Stephen Graham Jones (The Only Good Indians, I Was a Teenage Slasher)
- Screenwriter Aleka Cooper (M3GAN, Malignant)
But instead of inundating audiences with a dizzying array of launches, Stone Kite points to its first multimedia universe launching today, with Jones' One Zero One comic. Touted as grown from an original manuscript by Jones, the comic's first issue is available digitally now HERE, while print readers and collectors can preorder through Stone Kite's store portal.
Jason Jones Creates New Series Depicting Near Future Perilously Closer By The Day
Certainly not content with having his name on two already-dominant sci-fi titles as Bungie's co-founder, Jones' new story depicts growing fears among humanity amid the rising threat of a rogue army of AI-powered robot soldiers. Early glimpses of cover art and interiors for One Zero One indicate an early and impressive spread of styles, with intense visual backdrops of man's apparent upheaval against machine, and various robot soldiers shown either assembled in a charismatic kill team, or under human observation. The series is presented within a Blade Runner-adjacent world plagued with uncertainty and small moments of grace, with no dialogue shown so far, so as to not give the game away just yet.
I’ve spent my whole life making games, but I’ve always wanted to write. I used to bike fifteen miles along Lake Michigan to the used bookstores in North Chicago, and bike home again with a backpack full of sci-fi paperbacks. Margie was the first person to believe I could write a book of my own, the first person to read it, and the one person I trusted to help me develop it into epic entertainment that leaves the world a better place.
-Jason Jones, Co-Founder of Stone Kite
One Zero One will clearly touch upon the growing anxiety surrounding AI, already giving some truly striking renditions of its central soldiers like with stunning cover art by Björn Barends (Ghost Rider, The Hulk). Additional artistic talent to be featured on the comic are Paolo Rivera and Tula Lotay (Spider-Man, X-Men), Peach Momoko (Black Widow, Captain Marvel) and future participation from cover artists Adi Granov, InHyuk Lee, Esad Ribić, and more to be announced. Expect plenty of stunning variant covers for this four-part miniseries, one of which is by Momoko for issue #1, releasing installments reaching into 2027 with additional connected projects set to follow.
One Zero One is available to read digitally now with print copies available for preorder. The One Zero One universe is also underway with more projects coming, alongside an ambitious spread of content courtesy of Stone Kite.
