Our Hailey Bieber mood boards are at an all-time high. Not only is she goals after the recent sale of her brand, Rhode, to e.l.f. Beauty in a $1 billion deal, but she's our ink icon, having over 20 delicate and tiny tattoos that adorn her body, and her nails consistently slay. (We're still not over the red-hot lava nails she wore at Coachella in April.) Now, Bieber is back at the top of our Pinterest boards with a fresh take on her signature "glazed-doughnut" nail look. It's no secret that Bieber is a huge fan of O.P.I.'s Funny Bunny ($12) nail polish, which is a neutral white-pink shade that can be built upon for more opaqueness. The model has worn it time and time again, but at the Audemars Piguet 150th anniversary party on May 28, she used the shade in a new combination to create an "American manicure."
In case you need a refresher, American nails are like a softer take on a traditional French manicure. "Imagine a classic white-and-pink French manicure, now soften the contrast," Essie's global lead educator, Rita Remark, said when describing the trend in a 2024 interview. That means there isn't a distinct line between the base color and the white smile line along the tip. It's more of a softer, seamless blend, but the tip of an American manicure is still white-ish. This is what distinguishes American nails from "vanilla French nails," which feature more of a creamy yellow tip.
Zola Ganzorigt, Bieber's go-to manicurist, used one coat of O.P.I.'s Funny Bunny for the tip, then mixed that shade with a top coat to thin it out before painting the rest of the nail. According to her Instagram post, Ganzorigt used O.P.I.'s Tin Man Can Chrome Powder, which is only available at salons and to nail artists, to give the manicure an all-over chrome effect. For an at-home product, try the Aprés Nail Heavenly Top Gelcoat in Divine ($15) or Aprés Nail Heavenly Top Gelcoat in Guardian ($15). If you want to re-create the look at your local salon, now you know exactly what to ask for.
