Guy Ritchie has been exceptionally busy in the TV space over the last few years. In 2024, he debuted the first season of The Gentlemen, the hit Netflix series based on the 2019 film of the same name. The Netflix show did not return any of the original stars of the film, like Matthew McConaughey or Charlie Hunnam, but it did recruit Theo James and Giancarlo Esposito for major roles. Last year, Ritchie began the year in television with MobLand, the hit gangster thriller show starring Tom Hardy and Pierce Brosnan. The fate of MobLand hung in the balance for weeks after the Season 1 finale, but Paramount decided to renew the show. Season 2 is now in production, and recent set images confirmed Hardy has arrived on set to film new scenes.
While Ritchie has been making noise with TV shows on Netflix and Paramount+, it’s Sherlock Holmes that he’s best known for. Ritchie directed the 2009 film starring Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law, and although he famously does not work on sequels, he also directed the 2011 film, Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows. There have been plenty of big-screen adaptations of the famous British detective, but Ritchie’s iteration is arguably the most notable. He’s spent some time away from Sherlock Holmes, but now he’s set to return to the world with the new Prime Video series, Young Sherlock. The show stars Hero Fiennes Tiffin as the young Sherlock Holmes, and it will drop as a binge release on March 4. Matthew Parkhill wrote and created the series for television, and Guy Ritchie is the primary director of the show.
The ‘Young Sherlock’ Trailer Is Shattering Records
In the first week of February, Prime Video debuted the first eye-popping trailer for Young Sherlock, which showed the best look yet of Tiffin as the famous detective. News broke this afternoon that, in the seven days since the trailer has been online, it has racked up over 223 million views across social media. This is enough to make it the most-watched trailer for any piece of Prime Video media of all time. It’s safe to say Young Sherlock is one of Prime Video’s most anticipated projects of the year. The fate of the show beyond Season 1 has yet to be decided.
