Grand Theft Auto 6 has left a lot of confusion in its wake these past few years. From the initial leak to the eventual release date reveal (and subsequent delays), it's been a ride. Fans are pretty hyped for the game, but just want this never-ending cycle of marketing and lack of information to be over.
In just a few months, it seems like we'll finally be at the light at the end of the tunnel. It's firmly rooted in a November 19 release date, which Rockstar parent company Take-Two's CEO, Strauss Zelnick, has reiterated many times. In fact, he even restated it on an earnings call recently.
That said, there is still a controversy over delays just a few months before GTA 6 hits in earnest. Folks are discussing the fallout on Reddit, and it's left many gamers confused all over again.
Recently announced by Microsoft, Fable has been pushed back to February 2027, and GTA 6 is specifically cited as one of the reasons. In essence, XBOX is blaming GTA 6, in part, for the delay.
Here's the full breakdown from XBOX: "This is year is packed with incredible games for XBOX players to enjoy, from Halo: Campaign Evolved, Gears of War: E-Day and Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4 to Control Resonant, Star Wars: Galactic Racer and Grand Theft Auto VI. In order to plan our game launches through the holidays, in a way that works best for players, we’re moving Fable to February 2027 so it can have the dedicated moment it deserves. We’re excited to be giving players a major new look at Fable, as well as our broader lineup, at XBOX Games Showcase on June 7."
Naturally, some Fable fans are upset: "Xbox really needs to learn not to undershoot how long something is going to take to develop. Especially a game that looks as detailed and expansive as this one. It seems to have happened again with Arkane’s blade. Really tired of games getting announced before they’re even halfway through development."
Other fans are confused that it was moved at all: "I'm not sure why it's avoiding GTA VI tbh. The people that would play Fable will end up buying both, but the people who only play games like GTA, COD, FIFA, Fortnite etc. have never even heard of Fable and will never care enough play outside their casual fake gamer ecosystem."
A few fans think studios shouldn't morph their entire plans around GTA 6: "I don’t know why everyone is hyping up GTA6 it’s gonna be a console exclusive at launch, and it’s going to be just another GTA game Like wtf is happening, stop being scared of it."
Whatever the case, XBOX has moved Fable out of 2026 despite their prior confidence that it would hit that year. Now, let's see what GTA 6 does with the rest of its launch runway. We could see a Hollow Knight: Silksong situation where multiple games are delayed to avoid hitting at the same time.
