James is a gaming writer from London who has spent thousands of hours exploring titles from every genre. Though he has a particular affinity for multiplayer titles like World of Warcraft, Destiny 2 and League of Legends, he has also put thousands of hours into single-player experiences, from deep RPGs to epic PC strategies. When he's not playing or writing, he can usually be found supporting his beloved Brentford FC.

There's absolutely no doubt at this point that, despite the delays and difficulties bringing the game to players, the release of Grand Theft Auto VI is going to be one of the biggest of all time. Rockstar's crime-riddled epic is set to land in November, and there are millions of players waiting in the wings to give it a go on day one.

That said, one major portion of the gaming community who seemingly won't be able to get in on the action is PC players, with the game yet to have a release date for the platform. One way they might have been able to join the fun is via Xbox Cloud Streaming, but it seems reports of that being a possibility may have been a tad premature.

In case you haven't been keeping up with the whole thing up to this point, reports emerged previously that Microsoft had allegedly agreed to exclusive GTA VI streaming. Supposedly, Xbox Cloud Gaming was going to be the only service allowing Rockstar's game to be played in the cloud, but it has now been confirmed that is not the case.

As first reported by IXBT Games, Xbox CSO Matthew Ball put out a post on Twitter/X confirming that the cloud streaming rumors are simply untrue.

"Glad to see such interest in GTA VI and Xbox, but it also led to erroneous reports. We look forward to GTA VI launching on Xbox on November 19, although the game will not be available for exclusive streaming and will not be streamed on PC," the post reads.

That leaves those who only have access to PCs for gaming out in the cold entirely, and it will be a huge disappointment if they were hoping to get involved in the launch day activities. The statement does make it seem like both Xbox and PlayStation console players will be able to stream the game in some form, particularly with the specific clarification on the "exclusive streaming element".

There still hasn't been any word from Rockstar on what exactly they are planning to do with the PC version of GTA VI. It will definitely be released at some point, but given how little we have heard up to this point, it would be a huge surprise if we heard anything in the first year after launch.

Anyone familiar with Rockstar Games releases will know it was 19 months before GTA V made its way to PC, and 13 months before Red Dead Redemption 2 left consoles. Realistically, we're probably waiting at least one year before GTA 6 hits PC, although Take-Two has suggested this may not be the case after all.

During a recent shareholder meeting, Take-Two said: "The strategy of the company is, over time, generally speaking, to launch on any platform for which there's a meaningful audience. But that isn't always the case, and certainly if platforms were no longer viable, we would change that strategy. And I would note that the PC platform is becoming more and more important to our company over time."

If you are planning to be one of the millions who does enjoy Grand Theft Auto VI on console, pre-orders are now live. The game is set to launch with only the single-player active before the multiplayer releases some weeks later, giving everyone the chance to experience the story before the races, heists, and lobbies take everything over after that.
